A worthy effort - I can truly see a product like this being fantastic, if the time had been taken to create original, engaging stories rather than merely license old ones. Even just the premise of applying the same methodical, historical/geopolitical thinking Brooks does to "World War Z" to stories of zombie attacks throughout history seems to write itself. Brooks would not even have been needed. An anthology of writers and artists would have been more than fine.

What you have in this product is instead some sparse accounts taken from the back of "World War Z" and illustrated. No dialogue. No flavor. You'll read the whole thing in about fifteen minutes and none will provide you with any real satisfaction. They're really just scenes, not stories in any sense.

Can only really recommend this for the hardest of hardcore Max Brooks fans or zombie fans. Not much in it for anyone else.

But if knowing that this seems like you're sort of thing, please enjoy.

NOTE: I think one of the reasons I was so annoyed by this product is that it's not advertised as what it is. The term "graphic novel" is so insanely misused that I can hardly blame them for it, but this isn't even a narrative at all. I was expecting a collection of short stories and it's not even that.

First off, it's important to remember that none of these attacks are true.

Now with that out of the way, if you read the Zombie Survival Guide from the same author, this comic book is a waste of money. I luckily read this in my school's library and finished it in 15 minutes. It tells the same historical stories you learn from the Zombie Survival Guide, so this is nothing new.

I am a Max Brooks fan! I have spent many enjoyable hours reading his books. However, I must say I was disappointed in this book (graphic novel, if you prefer) for one very important reason, Price! Thirteen dollars for ten minutes of looking at a comic book portrayal of stories I have already read? It seems like many writers reach a point in there career where milking loyal fans for another paycheck becomes acceptable. sadly, I must now add Mr.Brooks to that list.

Just download the free sample. It contains litterly ALL of the new reading material you'll get. The only additional material you get by paying for the full version are EXCERPTS from the original Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.

Mislead into thinking this might contain something new besides that might render my money worth it. A few pictures did no such thing. Buy WWZ and survival guide; imo great books. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE

Ok, when they say it's a "graphic novel", they literally mean it's graphic as in 100% pictures. I was expecting graphic *stories* of zombie attacks through the ages, much in the same vein that World War Z was written. Nope, it's a comic book. And it doesn't have a lot of text to go with it. So after about an hour I was done. Definitely not worth $10.

The other issue is that it doesn't reveal anything particularly insightful. You never learn the origins of the virus. You never see any linear progression through history. At one time point, the virus pops up here. Somewhere later, it pops up there. But nothing really connects the time points and the events are scattered all across the globe. I won't spoil the ending (it was weak sauce), but I will say that it doesn't connect to the time line of World War Z. You can totally skip this comic book and you won't be missing a single thing from the Max Brooks universe. Very poorly done.

Regardless of how long you can stare at the illustrations, Recorded Attacks will not take you more than 5 minutes to read. It is too brief. There is no development in ANY of the historical accounts to really come away with any memory of what you had just read. The illustrations are nicely done, but the recorded accounts read like two sentence obituaries.

I love Max Brooks, World War Z, and the Survivival Guide, but Recorded Attacks is completely overpriced for a graphic novel.
