More About the Author

Nestled in the mountains of Northern California, Olivia M. Grey lives in the cobwebbed corners of her mind writing paranormal romance with a Steampunk twist. She dreams of the dark streets of London and the decadent deeds that occur after sunset. As an author of Steamy Steampunk, as well as a poet, blogger, podcaster, and speaker, Olivia focuses both her poetry and prose on alternative relationship lifestyles and deliciously dark matters of the heart and soul. Her work has been published in various anthologies and magazines like Stories in the Ether, Steampunk Adventures, SNM Horror Magazine and How The West Was Wicked.

Her premiere Steampunk erotica novel, Avalon Revisited, is an Amazon.com Gothic Romance bestseller. The sequel, of sorts, Avalon Revamped challenges the notion of happily-ever-after in a Steampunk Romantic Horror novel about retribution, redemption, and true justice. She also has two other titles available: The Zombies of Mesmer, a YA Steampunk Romance, and Caught in the Cogs: An Eclectic Collection of short stories, love poetry, and relationship essays.

Ms. Grey, now a cover model for Gearhearts Steampunk Glamour Revue, has seen quite the upswing in popularity over the past few years. Her poem "New York Rain" not only won an award for best poem, but it also made the Bar None Group's Hall of Fame. Her short story "Dust on the Davenport," written for Tales of the Archives, as well as her bestselling Steamy Steampunk novel Avalon Revisited, won the 2012 Steampunk Chronicle's Reader's Choice Award for best short story and best novel, respectively. Olivia was voted "Muse of the Fair" at the 2011 Steampunk World's Fair and has enjoyed being a special literary guest at Steampunk Conventions, like Clockwork Con, Aetherfest, HRM Steampunk Symposium, Florida Steampunk Exhibition East, among many others.

Ms. Grey dons a tight corset, fluffy bustle, and a teeny-tiny top hat for fantasy and sex-positive conventions where she presents controversial topics, interacts with fans, and participates on panels discussing fiction, writing, steampunk, mental illness and emotional insecurities, sexual health and safety, and relationship styles and tools, just to name a few. She loves to host tea parties, and she runs a delightful game of charades, Victorian style.

This is a young adult vampire adventure story with dashes of romance, steampunk, and an extremely likable heroine. I downloaded the sample to my Kindle, and after reading that, went immediately to order the rest of the story, because I wanted to know what happened next! Set in Victorian London, the heroine, Nicole Knickerbocker Hawthorne is a smart, modern young woman who wants to do right by her parents, and even puts up with the obnoxious suitor they have hopes she will marry. But she's more important things to do, such as making sure the band of ragtag orphans she's been looking after are kept safe, and...learning she is the Protector, a most powerful vampire hunter. With strong shades of Buffy spun throughout, I never once thought, 'oh, this is too much like Buffy', but rather appreciated the similarities the young heroines possessed, and the differences the author gave her slayer by interweaving interesting historical detail and a keen view into the young girl's mind. Nicole jumps into vampire slaying with enthusiasm, and caution, finding she's been ready for this all her life, and seemingly, the friends she's chosen are also prepared to help her on her journey.
The delightful cast of orphans are bright and unique, and the relationships between the slayer and her friends are touching and heartfelt. Nicole's nanny is also her teacher and a witch, and I love the relationship between the two as the student struggles for independence, and earns it by story's end. The mysterious and tragic Ashe possesses all the standard makings of a vampire romance hero, while being complicated and interesting.
To judge by the title, you may be expecting zombies with parts dangling and a fetish for fresh human meat, but you won't find them here. Nor will you find the famous Mesmer.

The topic of Mesmer fascinates me greatly. Vampires and Mesmerism? Yes, please! This was a page turner for me, I could not put it down.

I thought that Miss Grey put together a well written tale of a seventeen year old girl Named Nicole Hawthorn. Her mother and father want her to fit in with high society and marry her off to one of the most eligible bachelors in all of London, whom Nicole does not fancy. That's when she meets him as he looked through the window of her home as she had her debutante ball.

OM's knowledge of the workings of London in the late 19th Centrury along with the Steampunk genre work to weave a masterful piece. This book was hard to put down once I started. I really loved the book through and through. Miss Grey has a way of making the reader feel as though they are on this very same journey with Nickie Nick.

I hope in the future she returns to Nicole's outings as The Protector and Vampire Hunter along the streets of London. I want to know what the next adventure is. Can't wait for the second book in this series.

It is a good YA novel set in a combination Steampunk horror universe. A heroine who is strong without having to be over the top strong like too many other strong female characters. Sorry this is a problem I tend to have with both Buffy and Anita Blake. Great supporting characters and a fun story
