...is presented as a fact on page 1, by Sen John McCain. He says:
"...we were attacked not for a wrong we had done, but for who we are - a people united in a kinship of ideals, committed to the notion that the people are sovereign..."
In other words, as talk radio hosts love to remind us, we were attacked because they hate our freedom. What a howler. "They" hate our foreign policy, as Osama bin Laden has stated.
Then McCain relates how we swiftly and successfully retaliated. This is at least taking a "rose-glasses" look at recent events if not outright historical revisionism.
Our international relationships were the problem on 9-11 and they've gotten worse since. Saber-rattling and cheerleading for imperialism is the last thing we need today. (The Senator was just in the news singing a song about bombing Iran.) It's a shame McCain's grandstanding was allowed sully an otherwise fine work of research.
