Format: Paperback
His use of irony and sparse but descriptive language gives the reader a clear view into the quotidian life of antebellum Spain and in the wake of the Civil War he captures the social trauma and neurosis with wit and charity. A must read.

I must make correct, however, the previous review in regards to his birthplace. He was born in Vitoria, Pais Vasco in 1925. I only bother to correct this due to the nature of his upbringing and consequent perspective on politics and society in Spain. He did live in Madrid most his life, however. Basque writers are some of the most prolific in Spains history and are worth mentioning.

Format: Paperback
Paradoxical situations, the grotesque - which elicits intelligent mockery, and the juxtaposition of tragedy and comedy.
Aldecoa was born in Madrid in 1925 and died in 1969. He was not considered a realist, but someone who analyses reality using literature as a form of knowledge and discovery. Translation by Susana Heringman.
I found these enigmatic stories quite readable and memorable.
