I can't see what some people expect for this amount of money. The system could be installed by a 4 year old child - SO SIMPLE. It sounds great and is plenty loud for most common size rooms ( mine being 14 x 14 ) In fact I can't imagine wanting to turn it up as loud as it will go. I saw a few reviewers that complained about speaker wire length - DUH splice in more wire, I mean its two wires FIGURE IT OUT.
Others complain about settings - DUH again read the manual and experiment with speaker levels and speaker distance - ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Overall the system is fine for most everyone and the sound is actually amazing for this price ( or higher for that matter ), coupled with the fact that there are two optical inputs and a digital coax input and this system is a real winner.

This system is a great one. Especially for the price that I got it for. This thing is a STEAL! The only reason I gave it a four star review is because the speakers like to rattle a little whenever you've got it going at full blast but I'm alright with that. I can just get some new ones. The main things I love about this system is really three things. The receiver is great, the subwoofer can get down on some bass, and the overall aesthetics of the system is astounding! Great buy, Great seller, Get it!! You WILL NOT regret it!

I see a lot of people bashing this system, but for the price tag - well, you cannot do better! The receiver is pretty decent actually, and has features few would expect in a low cost model. The speakers are OK, but not spectacular. The subwoofer does a decent job. The reviews I read with complaints about distortion, well they might want to be realistic and not be cranking the system up to the max - after all you did already complain about the speakers not being high quality.

I am pretty satisfied with the quality for the price and may eventually get some better speakers for it. Look at it this way - not a bad price for a receiver these days, and some speakers to get you going; not a bad start if you ask me. Before insulting a product, consider what you are paying before expecting ludacrus results.

We bought this system two years ago when we bought our 55" flat screen TV for our new home. When I first set it up, I used the audio cables that came with the product. We were frustrated time and again while watching DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, because it made very strange sounds at low levels so you couldn't understand what was said, or it would cut out all together. We thought we made a bad decision, but before returning the product I decided to purchase a fiber optic cable to run audio from the Blu-Ray disc player to the receiver. BIG DIFFERENCE!

With the audio coming through the fiber optic cable the sound is crystal clear. Just that one change also allowed us to listen to the TV at a lower volume level than before. With the included cables we were turning it to about 46, now it is loud at 28 and I couldn't imagine turning it up to 46. We have been enjoying the system for two years and have no complaints after switching to the fiber optic cable. I have come to the conclusion that the audio cables which are included are not capable of carrying the range of sound which is transmitted by a Blu-Ray disc player. If you buy this, you need to also buy a fiber optic audio cable to get the sound quality that you need.

The main gripe had with this system is the center channel. It is VERY weak. Even after adjusting the center level to max, it was still too low. Other than that, it was an average system. Some things sounded better than others. It actually performed quite well with "Dead Space" on Xbox 360. However, movies were a mixed bag. When the dynamic sound would kick in on high action scenes, it got pretty loud, drowning out the weak center. I tried adjusting all the other channels to compensate, but in the end, it just wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks, your ears will thank you =)

This reciever has a great sound for the price, works well with my bluray player tv ipod and even a turntable. The speakers are not that great so I used my own speakers and now it sounds killer. The subwoofer does a good job of kicking out the lows.

After some time having it I was able to deeply know this receiver. I am using a LG BD550 player with it. Since I couldn't listen what people is saying in the movies (i.e. the sound coming from the front central speaker was NEVER loud enough) I decided to make my own front speaker replacement using two 4-Ohm speakers and now I solved this problem. On the other hand, another big defect is that there is NOT a DTS-HD decoder, so u will hear nothing unless you set the BD player to output "stereo" sound to the RT2870R while playing DTS-HD blue ray discs. As stereo is a 2.1 system, I can't enjoy all the surround stuff but thanks to my front speaker change I have a very good experience while listening blue ray discs with DTS-HD. However, I am able to have 5.1. surround if I get Dolby Digital blue ray discs. If i play this kind of BD's or DVDs then the surround sensation is excellent (of course, considering my new front speakers). I am planning to change all the speakers later... Those 1000 watts are a lot of power!. Another feature I like is its FM radio. I wish there could be a HD radio to analog converter... and a DTS-HD to Dolby digital converter to avoid the mentioned problems.

i got a new receiver and seriously I would suggest you to use your money and buy something else. This receiver, because of lack of DTS will make you feel uneasy. Its speakers are not that good and I felt distortions frequently.
