5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound and Awesome Price
I can't see what some people expect for this amount of money. The system could be installed by a 4 year old child - SO SIMPLE. It sounds great and is plenty loud for most common size rooms ( mine being 14 x 14 ) In fact I can't imagine wanting to turn it up as loud as it will go. I saw a few reviewers that complained about speaker wire length - DUH splice in more wire, I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, but confirm optical digital inputs are working
I bought this refurbished after reading the reviews here and other places. So I agree that for the price the sound is great and exactly what I need for our small size bedroom. The display model in the store had the front panel usb input, but the one I have in the box has front panel RCA inputs instead. Didn't matter much to me, I wasn't going to use that, so I kept...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound and Awesome Price, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
I can't see what some people expect for this amount of money. The system could be installed by a 4 year old child - SO SIMPLE. It sounds great and is plenty loud for most common size rooms ( mine being 14 x 14 ) In fact I can't imagine wanting to turn it up as loud as it will go. I saw a few reviewers that complained about speaker wire length - DUH splice in more wire, I mean its two wires FIGURE IT OUT.
Others complain about settings - DUH again read the manual and experiment with speaker levels and speaker distance - ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Overall the system is fine for most everyone and the sound is actually amazing for this price ( or higher for that matter ), coupled with the fact that there are two optical inputs and a digital coax input and this system is a real winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great system!! BUY IT!!!, April 1, 2010
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
This system is a great one. Especially for the price that I got it for. This thing is a STEAL! The only reason I gave it a four star review is because the speakers like to rattle a little whenever you've got it going at full blast but I'm alright with that. I can just get some new ones. The main things I love about this system is really three things. The receiver is great, the subwoofer can get down on some bass, and the overall aesthetics of the system is astounding! Great buy, Great seller, Get it!! You WILL NOT regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best deal for the price, May 26, 2010
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
I see a lot of people bashing this system, but for the price tag - well, you cannot do better! The receiver is pretty decent actually, and has features few would expect in a low cost model. The speakers are OK, but not spectacular. The subwoofer does a decent job. The reviews I read with complaints about distortion, well they might want to be realistic and not be cranking the system up to the max - after all you did already complain about the speakers not being high quality.

I am pretty satisfied with the quality for the price and may eventually get some better speakers for it. Look at it this way - not a bad price for a receiver these days, and some speakers to get you going; not a bad start if you ask me. Before insulting a product, consider what you are paying before expecting ludacrus results.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, but confirm optical digital inputs are working, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this refurbished after reading the reviews here and other places. So I agree that for the price the sound is great and exactly what I need for our small size bedroom. The display model in the store had the front panel usb input, but the one I have in the box has front panel RCA inputs instead. Didn't matter much to me, I wasn't going to use that, so I kept setting it up. However, out of the box, the digital optical inputs don't work at all. I had to wait a week to test those since I didn't have optical cables handy. For a lot of reviewers, maybe this isn't an issue, or maybe they don't even know what this means, but if you end up picking this system up somewhere, and you intend to use the digital optical inputs, check they work before you leave the store, or before your return period expires. In my setup, I have an LCD HDTV hooked up to an OTA HD antenna. When you do that, the HD stations have their audio in Dolby Digital. The TV has a digital optical output (no coax). To hear this audio in true 5.1 surround sound, you need to hook the digital optical output to a 5.1 receiver with working digital optical input. This one doesn't work and all I get is a rapid popping sound, kind of like a helicopter. If I hook up the RCA stereo outputs to one of the RCA aux inputs on the receiver, I can get the sound, and the simulated 5.1, but it is not the true 5.1 dolby digital surround sound. The coax digital input does work however. That is hooked up to a DVD player. So, I haven't decided whether to take it back or not. The sound is still good, and I am checking if there is a way to get a firmware upgrade at [...]. This was refurbished and so cheap, $99 Canadian, that I may not bother taking it back, but it would be nice to have some working digital optical inputs.

I suspect this is why there are so many of these refurbished units floating around. People return them when the digital inputs don't work, but they sell them refurbished because a lot of folks won't even bother hooking those up in their setups.

Again, sound is great for the price, lots of inputs, lots of setting adjustments you can make for your room, just check to make sure your digital inputs work if you are using those.

The manual for this is at [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars takes abuse like a pro, April 14, 2011
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
ive had this receiver for 3 years now and in its lifetime its blown about 15 speakers total over the years some intentional some accidental... the original speakers are where you get the low price from. out of the the five speakers and 1 sub that come with it only 2 satellite speakers remain and the sub... needless to say yes i am very hard on even the best of systems but this thing has lasted well beyond my expectations. it met its final calling testing out a 12" car audio sub woofer to check and see if it was blown. near its end though it was starting to over heat and i will warn you do NOT put stuff on top of this the only fan in it to keep it cool is a 1.5-2 cm fan... which with me got replaced after year one with a 120mm fan made for computers. great receiver but get better speakers... will miss the poor abused thing but at last im on to bigger and better things. perfect for someone who just wants to watch movies at a REASONABLE volume. if you push it to the max every time yeah its gonna sound like crap. because its 1000 watts going to a bunch of little 2 inch speakers. my final opinion... get it itll last a lot longer with you than it did with me.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice for the price, February 12, 2011
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
This reciever has a great sound for the price, works well with my bluray player tv ipod and even a turntable. The speakers are not that great so I used my own speakers and now it sounds killer. The subwoofer does a good job of kicking out the lows.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hardly NO midrange, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
The main gripe had with this system is the center channel. It is VERY weak. Even after adjusting the center level to max, it was still too low. Other than that, it was an average system. Some things sounded better than others. It actually performed quite well with "Dead Space" on Xbox 360. However, movies were a mixed bag. When the dynamic sound would kick in on high action scenes, it got pretty loud, drowning out the weak center. I tried adjusting all the other channels to compensate, but in the end, it just wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks, your ears will thank you =)

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't decode Dolby Digital, May 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
I recently bought one of these and I am returning it. The unit would not decode dolby digital from the optical inputs. Tried it with a dvd player, ps3 and even with my computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, So good.., November 28, 2011
This review is from: Home Theater System with 1000W Audio Receiver (Electronics)
Bought this system on black friday for around $150 from Target... So far I'm a fan. I am an Audio Engineer by profession, so audio quality is extremely important to me, almost as important as budget. If money wasn't a factor, obviously a $500 receiver is going to give you better results, but so far, I have no complaints about this thing. Receiver gets LOUD, I have it consistently around 30/50 and it's plenty loud. I have the receiver set up through the RCA (red/white) 'audio out' on my TV so by simply switching the source on my TV the sound being sent to the receiver changes as well. Sounds AWESOME with PS3 games and Blu rays through the game console. HD cable TV also sounds great. As long as the receiver holds up I plan to eventually get some higher quality speakers. For those of you who complain about the length of speaker wire attached to the speakers.... just solder (or just get some alligator clips) and attach more wire. Took me about 10 minutes to add 10 ft of cable to both rear speakers. So far, so good!

I rated this product 4/5 stars simply because the materials used for the receiver feel like cheap light weight plastics. Besides that, this thing passed all the tests.
