Didn't they just release all these movies on bluray less than two years ago? You could by all six movies in a set or by 1-3 and 4-6 separately. I can't count how many times I've bought the trilogy in my lifetime. Let me try and count the times. On VHS, VHS with THX. VHS special edition, DVD, DVD with special edition and original, Episode 1 VHS, Episode 1 DVD, Episode 2 DVD, Episode 3 DVD, and Episodes 1-6 bluray. Sure I missed a few other versions in there. Disney do you want to make your 4 billion dollar investment back quick? Release the original versions. Not spending any more of my money on these movies until you do.
At one time George had two sets of film for 4,5,6, he had one at his home and one at a storage facility, of some sort, the one in storage ended up crumbeling, or some kind of distruction, and the one he kept he altered on the actual films not a copy. I don't think that it is possible to find what so many people want. I wouldn't mind having a more "traditional" set but I also would like 99 trillion $$ having each of those is just as likely! So I take what I can get.
In this day and age you would think that a new negative could be made from the altered copy. You put something in, I would think that you could take something out. But I know nothing of technology, and Lucas probably wouldn't allow someone to touch his so-called original vision...
I am confused. Are these versions the ones that were shown when first released to theaters? The reviews seem to be for different sets. I am glad they have regular DVD again, as I don't have Blu-Ray. (I have been holding out for the portable Blu-Ray players to drop in price.)Will they ever be in iTunes? It would take up too much space on my iPad, but it would be worth it.
Fox only retains full rights to A New Hope until the next decade, so they are contractually allowed by Disney to release these sets for the time being. The only change in this particular edition is that it has both blu-ray and DVDs of the Special Editions.
