5.0 out of 5 stars Egyptian Secrets Revealed, June 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
Giorgio A. Livraga's book Thebes is well worth a careful reading. It combines the known historical data on Egypt with a thorough explanation of the mythological and mystical aspects of Egypt. The writer's love of Egypt and his enormous depth of wisdom into the magical dimension of the Egyptian Temple is quite riveting. I particular liked the chapters on mummification and the description of The Weighing of the Heart. There are also a lot of high quality images and diagrams in the book. I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like the Egyptian Culture..., October 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
If you would like to learn more about the magic that surrounded this great culture, then Thebes was written just for you.

Among the different books that I have read about Egypt; Thebes is one of the best. It not only informs about different aspects of the culture, it goes deeper and explains the spirit that laid under this magnificient culture. It is written by a person with a sensitive heart that visited Egypt not only as a tourist, but that captured the essence of the place, it's religion and sacred places.

Thebes can give you an insight into the life of the inhabitants of this ancient city. The book presents not only the external aspects of this culture, but most important, the internal part, the heart of the Egyptian Civilization.

5.0 out of 5 stars A throughly enjoyable read!, October 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
The author presents Egypt in a refreshing manner complete with insights into why they constructed their monuments and their views on life and the universe. Debunking some common misconceptions, "Thebes" shines new light on familiar objects such as the pyramids at Gizeh and the sarcophagi of the Pharoahs. This book does an excellant job of explaining why Egypt's history, as it is conventionally believed, lasted over 3000 years. Also, with reference to several new books by Graham Hancock and other authors writing on Egypt, Livraga was well ahead of them all, hinting about the start of history, that these recent authors are only now beginning to unravel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure, September 25, 2001
By
Pavlo (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
"Thebes" is a fascinating adventure. It is an absorbing book that reveals
many secrets about Ancient Egypt. Reading about the past of Ancient Egypt, I
also discovered a different vision of the present.

This book covers not only the magnificent cultural and historical facts of
the Egyptian civilization, but also gives the reader the chance to see our
own surroundings in the light of freedom and human dignity. Personally, the
ideas in this book renewed my hope and gave me confidence in myself and in
the future. Thebes, as the author writes, is not only a great sacred city,
but also a state of mind, which awakens in the reader strong convictions
about our eternal souls, the constant opportunity to do good deeds, and a
desire to cultivate the Just and Beautiful.

If you buy this book, you will not waste your money, but you will acquire
something very valuable - Knowledge, which is one more step on the way to
Wisdom.

In this book there is a combination of perception of the global reality of
the Great Life specific to the Ancient Egypt, and the approach to the
ordinary things of our day-to-day life, which, following the advice of
author Livraga can be guided philosophically, avoiding stress, anxiety, fear
of losing money or position, automatic obligation to be competitive and
productive, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thebes is an excellent book to learn about Egyptian Culture., December 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
If you like reading about ancient civilizations, then you will love this book. Thebes is one of those books that seems to magically transport the reader to a different place. When you read Thebes, you will visit Ancient Egypt and discover the magic and mystery of their ceremonies and temples.

Livraga gives a different vision of Egyptian Civilization and the world of symbols behind their daily activities, their ceremonies (such as the mummification), their concept of the human being, and their concept of life and death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, June 22, 2003
By
Mario Quiroz (Coral Gables, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thebes (Paperback)
My favorite parts in the book? 1) mummification, 2) the inner constitution of the human being, 3) Atlantis, 4) the mysteries of the great pyramid. I like the emphasis throughout the book on wisdom, magic, technology and mysticism. It is explained so well, and always accessible.

"Thebes" is about what it really meant to be an Egyptian: their way of life, their day to day spirituality, their beliefs regarding the afterlife, etc. Books like this are hard to find!
