Editorial Reviews

Produced and recorded by Egedy and mixed/co-produced by Jupiter Keyes of HEALTH, Thee Physical is a celebration of human touch in a digital world. The album is also unquestionably Pictureplane's best and most assured record to date: his vocals are confident and unnervingly sexy, the instrumentation is at once both purely electronic and surprisingly human. Pictureplane has managed to make electronic music deeply emotive--a synthesis of the human and the machine both in lyrics and sound. Summer 2011 belongs to Pictureplane.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Sophomore Slump Here October 26, 2011
By Kazevoh
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Pictureplane has avoided the sophomore slump that has punished so many bands in the past by taking the best parts of his debut-and injecting them with steroids. The nods to Psychic TV are apparent ("Gothstar" from debut-Psychic TV's "Godstar", use of the word "Thee", song titles/themes, etc), however that doesn't really carry over to the music. Pictureplane clearly has its own unique sound while also walking a thin line and paying tribute to Genesis P. Which I think is awesome because most bands who do this ruin it by trying to sound too much like their influences or they churn out garbage. Neither of which is true here.

If you are a fan of electro, goth, ebm or indie, then you will undoubtedly enjoy this. He also has a unique vocal delivery where he seems to be playfully bouncing lyrics off of the wall (maybe some would call it chill wave). Highlights are "Black Nails", "Real is a Feeling", "Trancegender" and my favorite track on the album, "Post Physical". If this album of what is yet to come then we can all expect big things from this artist..highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick. August 23, 2011
By steve
Format:Audio CD
Trancy, electronic, new.

Lots of offbeat lowfi samples, repetition, great moving synth work, subtle but proportionate and filling bass.

The vocals are just another instrument, adding that depth and evocative rue,
setting this album far away from what everyone else is doing. It's a *good* album to listen to.

Complex with many many layers, so much is happening all the time. On occasion it becomes a confusing mess
with questionable motives, but who cares, it's a fun floaty place to be when everything gets moving.

A very slick lil platter to disappear inside.

It has been recommended to me for a couple years now and I finally got around to listening to him, and he seems like a really interesting human being. it is insightful to follow him on social media.

Once again, I would like to thank amazon for allowing me the chance to buy this music in the first place. You see, I only have a chromebook which is incompatible with ITunes and many other sites for buying music. I have been very unsuccessful at giving my money away ! Amazon's cloud system allows me to put the music there, then download the files from there as if I was was on Linux, and it works perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a poppy NiN; August 13, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Love love love this record. It's catchy, dude has a great voice, and manages to keep this ethereal, poppy vibe throughout that isd uncommon in a lot of modern electronica. Recommended for fans of Cut Copy

5.0 out of 5 stars PICTUREPLANE, the total package February 1, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
(on a scale of 1-10)

Dance to it: 10

Weirdness: 5 (a touch alien, b/ I doubt it will freak you out)

Catchiness: 10

Originality: 9 (arguments could be made either way)

Abrasiveness: 1

Self Indulgence: 1

Experimentation: 3 (it's a singular semi-experimental sound)

Desperation: 0

Believability: 10

Darkness: 6 (it's joyous, but overcast)

Hardcore-ness: 1 (it goes hard, but in no way is it aggro)

Cover Art: 10

Genre Purity: 10

Offensiveness: 1 (For homophobes, change that to a 7)

Accessibility: 10

Notes: Pictureplane slices through out-of-favor dance genres of the past, to build a fresh and entirely infectious sound. It feels like he loves his own music, but not in a self-centered way like Bjork or anything. I am so thankful to the band HEALTH for discovering Picture and propelling him far enough to reach my ears. Pictureplane is a one man movement of music, art, and fashion.
