5.0 out of 5 stars Connects Nat. Am. healing concepts with western medicine, April 12, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Theft of the Spirit: A Journey to Spiritual Healing (Paperback)
I have given this book and Hammerschlag's other great work, "The Dancing Healers," as a set to my sons for college graduation. They hope their college experinces will help them make a living. I know these books will help them live. Dr. Hammerschlag provides us the rationale found in Western medicine that explains why the art of healing has flourished, isolated from mainstream society, in the hogans and pueblos of the American Southwest. Through these reminiscences of healing, the reader also gains a sobering insight into the consequesnces, physical and psychological, suffered by those of us whose lives are devoid of spiritual vitality. Hammerschlag certainly provides valuable information but his gift to us in these volumes is wisdom. I have enjoyed many books but few have effected my life as these have. Should you ever meet him, thank him for myself and my sons

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my Life, January 21, 2009

This review is from: Theft of the Spirit: A Journey to Spiritual Healing (Paperback)
The title of this review although may sound dramtic, it is true. My history of being sexually abused at a young age scarred my soul. I pursued a variety of treatment modalities. Meeting Dr, Hammerschlag and participating in his Turtle Island Project was an awakening and moved me on a path of healing. Theft of the Spirit is a wonderful muse for anyone. Inspiring, It propelled me to write, " Above His Shoulders " my true account of sexual abuse and my own healing. I reference all of Dr. Hammerschlag books in my memoir.

This review is from: Theft of the Spirit: A Journey to Spiritual Healing (Paperback)
It the spirit of his other book, "Dancing Healers," Dr. Hammerschlag puts together a collection of stories of healing. His insightful approach to using ritual along with "Western Medicine," helps us explore ourselves, our lives and our place in the world. This book should be on every bookshelf in every home. The renewed sense of spirituality and hope the reader obtains through reading this cannot be measured. Truly inspirational reading. Dr. H is a master storyteller.
