Not this one!,

Unfortunately there are way too many "Greatest Hits" or "Best of" choices from Atlanta Rhythym Section. Seems that most of them are remakes. If anyone knows which ones include the ORIGINAL VERSIONS of their songs, please let me know. This is not the one!

DO NOT BUY!,

I bought this CD, and the artists are not the same as the ones who sang the songs in the 70's! I know, because I compared my vinyl versions, and they're not the same! On the CD I purchased, the song "Doraville" was supposed to be on track 2. It was, but it was also REPEATED on track 6! DO NOT BUY THIS CD!

Not The Real Deal!,

I'm usually pretty careful when ordering/buying CD's to be sure the songs are performed by the original artists. In this case, I wasn't careful enough because had I read the reviews I would have know that the songs on this CD are not performed by Atlanta Rhythm Section, althought there is nothing to indicate otherwise in either the description or on the CD itself. These are bad recordings off tempo and off key in some cases. If you were looking for the real deal, forget this CD. It went right into the trash.

Not what I expected . . .,

I was quite disappointed to find that the album contained remakes of my favorite Atlanta Rhythm Section songs. They're not bad, but I wanted the original versions--wished they had mentioned that they weren't somewhere on the cover. I can't recommend buying this album.

New Recordings NOT the Originals,
By Deborah Wolpert "Jazzy Cat" (Baltimore, MD USA) - See all my reviews

I bought this with the thought, as others who have reviewed this CD, that it was a low cost collection of my favorite ARS songs in their original form. How disappointing that this is a another of those re-recorded versions that older bands who get back together decide to put out to jump start a stellar career that died long ago. I LOVED ARS and still do. I don't believe that they meant to decieve anyone as to the content of this CD. This appears to be a condensed version of "Atlanta Rhythm Section '96," a CD that by its title implies 'remake.' The band for that CD had three original members left, including Ronnie Hammond, the lead singer during their heyday. The blurb for "ARS '96" says that "the live-in-studio sound presents a different, less polished take on some classic tunes..." That applies to this CD as well.

Something Different...,

Many of the people who wrote reviews for this album missed the whole point of this album! The first problem I would like to address is that there was a technical problem with the production of this album as one song listed did not play while another one played in its place. How or why this happened is beyond me, but for the rest of the available album, what you have here is a unique piece of band history!
When ARS produced the original music we all came to know and love, those songs were shortened and condensed for valuable radio air play. What you have here on this album is one of the original guitarists for the band Barry Bailey, who was how shall I say it- cut short on those early album versions of these songs. What you have on this album is Barry Bailey re-recording the band's hits and taking the opportunity to stretch out those classic guitar leads. After years on the road and thousands of performances, Barry could play those parts the way he wanted to live, but in the studio he was definitely cut short! So for those of you who would like to hear those great guitar parts slowed down a little bit and stretched out and added to after decades of playing them before live audiences, this is where you can hear those songs the way Barry would like to have played them on those original albums. I have been a fan of ARS since the beginning and when I choose to listen the band's hits, this is the album I listen to the most because I love the extended guitar parts! A definite must have for the fans of this band!

Decent Collection of Songs,

In their heyday, the Atlanta Rhythm Section walked the funkier side of the Southern Rock street dominated by Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers. Their biggest hit was "So Into You," an extended version of which kicks off this collection. Other highlights include the more Skynyrd-sounding "Doraville" and "Jukin" as well as "Champagne Jam." ATS, unfortunately, does not get the due they deserve on classic rock radio these days, as one listen to this collection will demonstrate.
