5.0 out of 5 stars emotionally supercharged - brings tears to my eyes
I LOVE THIS CD. This soft lullaby album is as well-suited for parents as it is for babies. Emmylou Harris singing "Child of Mine" often brings tears to my eyes -- the lyrics never fail to touch me and make me think about my role as a mother guiding a child through the world. -- "You don't need direction, you know which way to go And I don't want to hold...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good, but....
The album contains good songs, but the song by Gloria Estefan is very loud compared to the others. All the rest are very low key, and this one song in the middle just blasts out with her voice and lots of percussion. It wakes my daughter up every time. I like the Estefan song, but it just doesn't fit with the others. I wouldn't consider it a lullaby song at all.

I LOVE THIS CD. This soft lullaby album is as well-suited for parents as it is for babies. Emmylou Harris singing "Child of Mine" often brings tears to my eyes -- the lyrics never fail to touch me and make me think about my role as a mother guiding a child through the world. -- "You don't need direction, you know which way to go And I don't want to hold you back, I just want to watch you grow." Sounds heavy, but it's also very gentle and pleasant to listen to. I particularly enjoy Roseanne Cash's "Carrie" and Mary-Chapin Carpenter's "Dreamland".

The liner notes are an added bonus, featuring photographs of the artists with their mothers/daughters. An additional bonus, the artists are donating their royalties to the Voiceless Victims program of the Institute for Intercultural Understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD, December 6, 2000

This review is from: 'Til Their Eyes Shine... The Lullaby Album (Audio CD)
I received this CD as a present when I was pregnant with my oldest. I listened to this everyday while I was on maternity leave and sewing the curtains and the crib bedding for the nursery. When my daughter was born, she would nap every afternoon to this CD. I love the songs, especially "Child of Mine". The artists take overwhelmingly powerful feelings and put them into words about how much mothers love their children. It is still one of my favorite CDs and is always in our stereo.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of lullabye album, December 6, 2001
By

This review is from: 'Til Their Eyes Shine... The Lullaby Album (Audio CD)
I have had this album since my 8-year old son was a baby. I obtained it because I heard Mary Chapin Carpenter had contributed to it and I love her music. Her song "Dreamland" was the lullabye I used to sing him and his 5-year old brother to sleep with. As it happens, Carole King has been one of my favorite singer/songwriters since the early 70s and her contribution "If I Didn't Have You" was another song I have sung many times to my 8-year old. He still likes me to sing it to him.
All of the artists are talented, well-known singers and/or songwriters. They also come from different genres but they still speak to an audience that may look for something different in the choice of music that puts our kids to sleep, while entertaining parents.
I love the inclusion of Maura O'Connell's Gaelic lullabye, "Dun do Shuile," sung in Gaelic. Even though there is no translation in the liner notes, the music itself is beautiful. I wasn't too keen on the Anna & Kate McGarrigle song at first, but it grew on me; like them it seems a bit offbeat and wonderful.
For a Baby Gift one might consider giving this album of lullabyes on CD or cassette along with a copy of Mary Chapin Carpenter's book "Dreamland."

These songs are great. I work in a daycare and the children listen to this CD everyday at nap time. They quiet down so they can hear the music and even sing along at times. The teachers also enjoy it as well. I just had to purchase it so I could listen to it at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars preschool teacher, October 7, 2004

This is the best naptime cd I had ever heard. It is so beautiful and touching. The lyrics will make you cry and put the children right to sleep. I wish they would come out with another cd like this. Sometimes we forget that celebrities are real people with families. This is a nice reminder of that. This is a must have for any parent, child care worker or anyone who loves children.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is wonderful!!, August 15, 1999

I borrowed this CD from the library at our Children's Hospital while my daughter was admitted. I immediately knew I had to find it for her. I located it at Amazon.com and had it in a few days. This is the best CD I have heard in a long time because the songs are so meaningful. My daughter is chronically ill and spends alot of time in the hospital. This CD comes along with us every time. It comforts her when she is away from home. I recommend it to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treasure!, October 20, 2004

I received this CD as a gift 11 years ago when my daughter was born. She listened to it every night for the first five years of her life. It comforted her and soothed her to sleep! Today she pulls it out and remembers the times we laid together and sang the songs until she couldnt keep her eyes open anymore. It evokes wonderful memories for both of us. I would buy this CD again and again and would recommended it any mother! It's truly a treasure!

I think I like listening to these songs more than my kids do! It isn't very often you can find a lullaby tape that parents love. The songs are so soothing and sweet without being the same old stuff we grew up with. My children get all dreamy-eyed when we play the CD. I suggest all parents buy it and really listen to the lyrics. It will help to remind you how precious your children are!

This is the best lullaby CD I have ever heard. I am a teacher of young children and we listen to this at nap time every day. The children love the songs and sing to them. It is heart-warming, soothing and calming. I also enjoy listening and singing to all the songs (it calms me down too). It has a wonderful collection of various artists. I have given this as a gift to many new parents. A must buy!

We purchased this in summer of 2004 when our daughter was 1 1/2.
We, the parents, fell in love with it right away. Such a refreshing change, and all new songs to us. Now our little girl is over two, and has to hear it before bed each night. Track two, Child of Mine, is our special song, and instantly brings calm and cuddles to an otherwise stressful time of day. I can't imagine a time in the future when I won't love this CD. I will likely take it to my retirement home -- everybody needs a little lullaby once in a while -- not just the kids.
