Proud, Pouty Sisters,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Their Greatest Yiddish Hits (Digitally Remastered) (Audio CD)
My first Barry Sisters song was their version of "Dem Nayem Sher" recorded with Seymour Rechtzeit and Dave Tarras back when the Barry Sisters were known as the Bagelman Sisters. That 1940s recording is bouncy and humorous, and the only critical point I have to make about the CD at hand is that I am not as pleased with the latter-day "Dem Nayem Sher" included on it. Otherwise, this is a golden basket of energetic Jewish traditional songs. The Barry Sisters sang primarily in a brand of Yiddish that is big on playful attitude. I guess the music on this CD approaches "easy-listening" or standard singing, but it is much more interesting than these terms suggest. The Barry Sisters made fun, brisk, beautiful music.
