Book Description

One moment can change your life forever.
One moment to find love.
One moment to lose it.

Hannah Dewmont and Chase Harper are the perfect pair. With their lives intertwined since childhood and their love in full bloom, it seems only natural that they'd make plans for a future together. A future that includes promises... promises that will prove impossible to keep.

This is a young adult contemporary romance novella at just over one hundred printed pages.

Excerpt:
"Chase? Are you all right? You've been so distracted all night." She put down her spoon
and made a heart shape with her hands. It was their secret message, to say "I
love you" in a private way, even in the most public of places.

Chase looked up at her, his eyes gleaming by the candlelight, and he smiled. Her
heart had finally mustered up enough courage in him to tell her what he had
been hiding all night. "Hannah, I have something for you."

She stopped dabbing her mouth with a napkin and laid it on her lap. "You do?" She
was shocked. Chase wasn't really one for surprises or gifts. He'd given her
flowers a few times, and chocolate for her birthday, but that had been it. She
never expected anything more from him than his attention. Chase continued to
surprise her when he pulled out a small black box and opened it to display the
beautiful small, white-gold ring. Her eyes widened as she picked it up. "Are
you ..." she faltered, "... are you proposing to me?"

Chase laughed lightly. "A proposal seems like a choice, and I never had a choice in
loving you. This is just always the way it's been for you and me, Hannah. So
no, this isn't a proposal. This is a promise. A promise that I will never stop
loving you, and I hope you'll make the same promise to me."

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Letters Inside Out September 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I went into reading Brina's novella with no knowledge of what it's about. (Aside from it being New Adult contemporary.) I'm so happy I did! Because of the length of shorter works, I'm always hesitant to review them. There's not much you can say without spoiling the entire thing!

Hannah and Chase are young, but completely devoted to one another. It's the sort of love we imagine and hope to one day have. It is perfect. Typically that would be dull, but Courtney manages it so well that you can't help but fall a bit complacent in this happy place.

Then comes along major twist comes from out of nowhere and shattered that "happy place". Their Promise captures that pain so well. I'm a super sensitive person - one of those that can't watch some commercials on TV without tearing up (or, you know, sobbing in some cases).

I've always lived with the assumption that a truly fabulous book (or novella) will bring out a variety of emotions. It will make you feel. Courtney's Their Promise fits in that category flawlessly.

I received my copy of Their Promise from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brina Courtney is amazing! August 26, 2012

If you read Brina Courtney's other books, you know she has a way with words, and she writes great characters. Their promise will make you smile, but mostly it will make you cry. Be prepared for a deep, meaningful story that will stay with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaw! The FEELS. August 26, 2012
By Beth
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is nothing that can prepare you for the loss of someone you love wholly and completely. It is pain so unfathomable that some are unable to find a way to mend their shattered existence into some semblance of a whole. It is a pain that forever leaves you a little bit broken and incomplete. Brina has done an exceptional job of poetically and poignantly painting the anguish that comes from forever losing a part of your heart, and how you find the will to stand on air--aware that one wrong move, thought, or action will once again send you tumbling down, unsure if you will ever be able to find the will to pull yourself up again. This is a beautiful story of love and loss. Its message resonates with those of us who have endured such a loss, and creates a heart wrenching empathetic view for those who merely fear it. I highly recommend it. However, be prepared for the plethora of tissues that will be needed. Brava Brina, you've broken our hearts so that they can be mended to something new and so much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short but well worth the read! September 13, 2012
By S.S.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This story is short, but packs quite a punch. There is so much love, happiness, heartbreak, anger, and learning to survive and recover from something terrible. It's amazing all that emotion can be contained in this little book. But Brina does it so well. She has such a beautiful way with words. You definitely need to read this book, it may make you cry, but it will make you smile too. I promise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking & Worth it! August 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been a Brina Courtney fan ever since I read the first Chapter of reveal ( #1 in the Crypid tales series ), and then wanted to bow at her feet when I finished Capture. So it's no surprise that I was jumping on the bandwagon to check out her first YA contemporary!

Now.. I am not a contemporary fan to be honest. Mostly just because... well it's too.. real! I tend to be an emotional person and get really sucked into the stories and end up far too attached.

BUT this was Brina's writing and I had to give it a shot.

Cried, glared at the pages, shook my fists. And wished for more!

I will always hesitate when opening a contemporary book. But I have faith now that if Brina Courtney is writing it, I won't be disappointed, and all the emotions will be well worth it.

It is a heartbreaking story that will have you totally invested in the characters. The only downfall is that it is a novella! I want more Brina! MORE haha. I cannot wait to see what else this Author has in store for us readers. Whether it be paranormal or contemporary, I will be waiting in line.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely YA Novella September 13, 2012
By Me
Format:Kindle Edition
When we first meet Hannah, she's remembering the time that she damaged her sister's really expensive designer bracelet. Lots of brand names are thrown out and expensive price tags; I did not want to finish reading the book. But I took it for what it was and kept going, partly because I love YA fiction and partly because I signed up for it. ;)

Chase, despite his name, changed my opinion of the book. I liked his background and found it far more relate-able and his relationship with Hannah also cause me to like her more.

The writing style in this novella is somewhat juvenile, but the novella is geared towards juveniles, so I thought it fit very well. I think the younger teen crowd would be more drawn to this than older. That was my only reason for taking away a star.

And of course, I'm not giving anything away and I suggest you not read too many reviews or you'll know how it ends before you begin! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Novel September 4, 2012
By Yaz
Format:Kindle Edition
I have been wondering what can I possible say about this story that will be helpful for other readers, and the only thing that comes to mind is to say is READ IT. I am sure this story will touch everyone in a different way, because well... we are all different, but I can guarantee that it will be a story easy to relate to.

I have to admit this book made me cry several times (tear-Jerker story for sure). I had to take breaks often because it just was so touching, so real. It is very easy to relate to the emotions throughout the story.

This book truly submerges you into the character's emotions. Some readers might think this book is about love, loss, heartbreak, survival and everyone will be correct. It is about life. It is about living. It is about surviving and living through the gifts and obstacles life throws at us.

I love the fact that at the very end (this is not a spoiler), it provides enough information that would help others.

I can't wait to read what else this author has to offer.

Brina Courtney... thanks for sharing your work and for reaching to help others with your story. Good Job!!!
