I purchased this book in the hopes of learning more about Alchemy as practiced by various Thelemic societies and to see what permutations, if any, occurred in the Alchemical Initiations of Thelemic Societies after Crowley. Although the book does present a Theleic (though distorted) version of alchemy, its approach is severely lackluster and does not present Alchemical Facts.
Being the Headmaster of one of the World's Largest Accredited Alchemical Institutes [...], My initial hope was that this book would really help bridge the understanding of Thelemite Friends of mine into the realm of Alchemical Exploration. Unfortunately, as I began reading the book, I found that such was not the case. For instance, in the First Chapters, the author makes some Very Important mistakes with fundamental associations. His Seven Primary Processes that he lists on page 13 are not generally correct, and it appears as if his understanding is somewhat skewed. My impression is that the author has not had a direct apprenticeship in the Art, but has instead simply read multiple alchemical texts. In Alchemical Literature, Many encryptions are made to deter non-initiates. From what I have experienced, this book has taken the encryptions that are obviously made to deter folks and re-presented them as facts and truth. This does a great injustice to those who would read this book thinking they are discovering Alchemy.
I suggest that anyone interested in Alchemy refrain from reading this book until you have several years study with an actual Alchemical Institute, such a Spagyricus (with Robert Allen Bartlett), the Alchemical School of Al-Kemi (with Paul and Micah of [...] the International Alchemy Guild (home study program, primarily influenced by the Current Governors & Presidents of the Guild; ie - Dennis William Hauck, Gabriel Moroney, Hans Schimmer, etc;), or the Diviner's Rights Institute of Alchemical Mastery [...]. Additional institutes of study would be that of the Rose-Croix University, for those who would like to venture into the Realm of Rosicrucainism.
Books that I would instead suggest if you truly want to learn about Alchemy: The complete Idiot's Guide to Alchemy by D. W. Hauck (currently co-president of the Alchemy Guild); Real Alchemy by Robert Allen Bartlett (Headmaster of Spagyricus Alchemical Institute); The Emerald Tablet by D.W. Hauck; The Hermes Paradigm: Book One - Basic Principles by Rubaphilos Safluere (Published by Salamander and Sons Press); The Alchemist's Handbook by Frater Albertus (Former Headmaster of Paracelsus Research Society in SLC, UT, USA); Spagyrics by Manfred Junius (Renowned Teacher of the PON), any publication you can find by the PON (Philosophers of Nature), and, if you are looking to learn more about the Initiatic Teachings of Spiritual Alchemy as passed on by the Rosicrucians, I might Suggest the works by Paul Foster Case, E.J. Langford, and David Goddard.
Again, I strongly suggest against this book.
