Theme came out in the 80s with Leslie working with Jack Bruce again. This is a great sounding CD with Jack doing the honors on vocal for the Title Tune (Excellent) Other highlights include a great version of Hendrix's "RedHouse" and Cream's Version of "Spoonful" segueing into "Love me tender" Leslie is in fine form throughout the offering. Highly recommended to WBL, Mountain, and Leslie West fans.

I already own most of Leslie West's efforts, and I thought I had him pretty much covered. That's the beauty of this. Found some jewels here and had to have it. Maybe someday this Phat cat will be given his due. Hendrix picked up a bass to jam with West. What does that tell you? This guy wears it on his sleeve. If you don't have his very first solo effort, I highly recommend it. There are musicians out there that live for record sales or notariety. Not this dude. Do yourself a favor and track down some video of Mountain's performance at Woodstock. He's always challenging -- always in the moment. Blackmore, Page, Beck, Hendrix. I love 'em. Still, there is a special quality in this man. An urgency. Always best when played loud.

One of my favorite albums. Leslie's version of Mountain's classic "Theme For An Imaginary Western" is sung by it's composer, Jack Bruce. Jack's voice with Leslie's guitar is hauntingly beautiful. The live cuts "Spoonful" and "Red House" are perfect. Leslie just started using Steinberger guitars at the time which is evident in the unique riff in "I Ate It" where you can hear Leslie pulling chords up and down. Only complaint, "Love Me Tender" faded out too soon just as Lesie's guitar starts too cry. Great production, great sound and great performances.

Howard Stern should take credit for this album. Back in late '85 Howard was talking about how much he loved Mountain. Listening to him was none other than Leslie West who later called in and said how much of a fan he was of Stern. The two became friends and Leslie became a regular on his show. Then something weird happened, Mountain records started to sell again as Howard introduced a new generation of fans to the Mississippi Queen himself. Pretty soon Leslie was in demand for live shows and recording offers came in.

Leslie pays tribute to Stern with the song ''Motherlode''. 0ne would think it was ''Talk Dirty'', but it's not. Howard wrote the liner notes on the back of the album, which in itself is worth the price.
