4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Remakes of Original Percy Faith Arrangements
This CD is a great compilation of some of Percy Faith's most popular arrangements. The sound quality is excellent, as is the track selection. It includes versions of most of his charted songs, most notably, "Theme from a 'Summer Place'" and "Moulin Rouge." Purists should note that this CD was recorded in 1994, almost twenty years after Faith's death. In my opinion,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Remakes of Original Percy Faith Arrangements, March 20, 2002
This review is from: Theme From a Summer Place (Audio CD)
This CD is a great compilation of some of Percy Faith's most popular arrangements. The sound quality is excellent, as is the track selection. It includes versions of most of his charted songs, most notably, "Theme from a 'Summer Place'" and "Moulin Rouge." Purists should note that this CD was recorded in 1994, almost twenty years after Faith's death. In my opinion, such re-recordings rarely compare to the originals and generally have little value, except to the record company. However, since Faith was primarily an arranger, this CD works remarkably well and serves as an excellent representation of what he was about. Don't be surprised if you find yourself seeking out original Faith performances (of which there are many available on CD) after listening. All in all, a worthwhile purchase for anyone interested in the easy listening format or in quality instrumental music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best from Percy Faith, August 1, 2000

This CD soothes the tensions of the day. The best rendition of "Ebb Tide" that I've ever heard. "Ebb Tide" makes you want to cry, the combination of the piano and other strings is wonderful. Percy like his stringed instruments and they are magnificent, bold yet delicate. No singing on this CD, just the beautiful music. To bad they don't play songs like these on the radio anymore. This CD is a "Must Have" for anymore who leaves the office with their nerves frayed.

I bought this C.D. to listen to the theme from a Summer Place and found to my surprise that all of the selections were wonderful. There is a fine art to arranging music and Faith is certainly distinctive in his very romantic and peaceful style. Faith, himself is not actually conducting these selections but the arrangements are true. I think that anyone no matter what your age would enjoy this album for its romantic and peaceful pleasures.

The samples on Amazon are not taken from this album, but from Percy Faith's original work. Therefore, I was really disappointed when I received this album. Although these are supposedly arrangements (I say this because I think some instrumental arrangements were altered a little) of Percy Faith, they are conducted by Nick Perito, who was not able to express the passion of the master conductor himself. When I listened to half of this album, I constantly found myself disappointed by the consistent lack of expression in each of the songs. I have a couple other original Percy Faith albums (Tara's Theme, Greatest Hits & Christmas Is) and I grew up with listening to many of his albums at home, so I am very familiar with Percy Faith's original work. If you're familiar with and truly appreciated Percy Faith's original work (and I mean his conducting the orchestra himself), you may well be disappointed in this album, too.

This is one Faith album you have to own if your a fan of his. Most of his prettiest songs are on this cd including my favorite Arrivedercia Roma.To date this is the only Faith cd you will find Arrivedrcia Roma on unless they reissiue Bon Voyage which isn't likely no time soon.Nick Perido does the conducting here but on most songs you can't tell a difference. He sounds just like Faith.A good reissiue by Ranwood.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ORCHESTRA UNDER NICK PERITO, January 20, 2000

This collection is entitled THE PERCY FAITH ORCHESTRA - THEME FROM A SUMMER PLACE. The man himself is not at the helm here, but his arrangements are used throughout. Very delightful, but to attentive listeners, there are slight differences between Percy Faith's own versions and these, as conducted by Nick Perito. The sound is quite lovely, with a pre-eminent role given to strings. In some pieces such as TENDERLY, there is virtually no difference. A great colection, well played and very well recorded. I would still prefer the man himself, but hey he's not around anymore. His music lives on. (Compare with: Bouquet/Bouquet Of Love.) By the way, this is not a "soundtrack".

Do you remember Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee from the hit movie "A Summer Place"? Yes, it was decades ago and I don't care if it dates me. I loved that movie, but even more... the theme song. It was hauntingly unforgettable and tragically romantic. I rushed to purchase this CD when I discovered that not only was one of my favorite themes featured, also included were Tara's Theme from "Gone With The Wind", Autumn Leaves and Some Enchanted Evening from "South Pacific". The arrangements are exquisite, Percy Faith's orchestra "noteworthy" and well worth a listen, with or without your romantic partner.

I had the old LP of Percy Faith's greatest hits. Just browsing on Amazon.com, I came across this album, and decided to purchase it after listening to the sample tunes. I really love the song "Theme From a Summer Place". If you really enjoy good music and don't care for some of junk that is being released nowadays, give this one a try. I think you'll enjoy it. It's a great album to just unwind to after a hectic day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous., July 25, 2006

I can't help but become nostagic about Percy Faiths version of "A Summer Place". For me it brings back such vivid childhood memories and also brings about an instant feeling of security.
If there is one tune that makes the ultimate statement about the warm, lustrious, happy months of summer this is the one.
Percys arrangements involving lush chromatic counter melodies and pizzicato violin strings were the best.
"Theme from a Summer Place" was almost the highpoint of the movie itself.
"Ebb Tide" is also handled beautifully.
If you require a legendary Desert Island Disc then this is the one.
