Nice Presentation of One of TV's Most Memorable Themes.,
By
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Main Title (Audio CD)
All of the instrumental "Star Trek" theme songs are excellent, but I have always found Voyager's theme to be the most moving. So I wanted as long a version of it as I could find. This CD gives us 2 minutes, 11 seconds of Voyager's Main Title, original version, composed by Jerry Goldsmith, whereas the "Caretaker" Soundtrack CD has 1 minute, 45 seconds of the main theme. "Star Trek: Voyager Main Title" also offers Pop and Synth versions of the theme, both arranged by Jerry Goldsmith's son, Joel Goldsmith. The Pop version clocks in at 3:07 and is surprisingly good. The snappier, upbeat interpretation loses less impact than I would expect, and the extra length is nice. At first, I didn't care much for the Synth version, which is by far the longest of the three at 4:56. But now I've decided that it's the first minute and a half of it that I don't like. That segment isn't entirely recognizable as Voyager's theme and is oddly and unpleasantly meandering. The remainder of the Synth version grew on me, though, and I now find it memorably haunting. If Voyager's Main Title is the only part of the score you want, this CD will give you a little more of it than the "Caretaker" soundtrack. If you have "Caretaker" and can't get enough of Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful score, this will be a welcome addition. Either way, I recommend "Star Trek: Voyager Main Title" to Voyager fans. Voyager's theme is one of the best in television history, and this CD showcases it nicely.

Wow! My new demo disc!,

This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Main Title (Audio CD)
Forget Telarc Digital's 1812 Overture. Forget Eric Clapton Unplugged. This is my new demo disc. Every audiophile who want's to show off their expensive amps and speakers needs this disc. The first track (Joel's Pop Mix) is the most impressive, and worth the price of the CD alone. With its wonderfully clean recording, the horns and electric guitar are crisp and sharp, and sound amazingly great at loud volumes. The next two tracks share the recording quality, and a bright and crisp all the way through. You wouldn't think there are so many subtleties to such a simple arangement, but once you play Jerry's extended version, you can really tell performers are getting into their parts.I recommend this disc highly, and at the price, you can't go wrong.

"exciting ingredients for your listening pleasure",
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Main Title (Audio CD)
Once again Jerry Goldsmith has proven he is the master when it comes to composing themes and scores for "Star Trek". He has been nominated sixteen times for the Academy Award, winning for his haunting choral and orchestral score to "The Omen". This CD provides three selections from the Voyager's Main Title - Pop Version, Synth Version and the Original (Extended) Version. On tracks one and two arrangements and performances by Joel Goldsmith, son of Jerry. Track Three conducted and arranged by composer Jerry Goldsmith, very beautiful and haunting which is typical of Goldsmith themes.GNP/Crescendo Records with producers Neil Norman and Mark Banning serve up three different and exciting ingredients for your listening pleasure. Into the dimension and realm of the imagination, this theme from Goldsmith's unforgettable score takes you to galaxies, searching through space and beyond, well done Crescendo! Total Time: 10:27 on 3 Tracks/ GNP-Crescendo Records - GNPD 1405 (1995)
