5.0 out of 5 stars ~Warwick soulful masterpiece~Bravo Dionne! March 18, 2004
Format:Audio CD
Dionne hit the top of the charts with "The Spinners" 1974 Thom Bell classic "Then Came You", quickly followed this mega-hit in 1975 with the greatest pure soul album of her brilliant career. This extraordinary album produced by legendary producing/composing wonder Jerry Ragovoy, esteemed producer who wrote soul classics for the late soul legend Lorraine Ellison of the "Stay With Me" fame and numerous other soul filled successes. Dionne proved up to the challenge of diving into songs which stretched her voice to brilliant new heights never heard before and created a really stunning masterpiece. Opening this classic collection is energetic up tempo "Take It From Me" a R&B hit, from this great opener it is clear this is going to be a sizzling collection that cooks from beginning to end! Lushly orchrestrated "We'll Burn Our Bridges Behind Us" flows beautifully with a smoldering vocal from Dionne, amazing this soulful anthem was not released as a single because it has the sound of a huge hit! Glorious gospel heights Dionne hits in the masterful "Sure Thing" followed by wildly successful mega-hit title song "Then Came You". Hypnotic and haunting vocal make "How Can I Tell Him" captivating, majestic "Move Me No Mountain" is a total winner and arrangement is like that great ride in an amusement park one doesn't want to end. "I Can't Wait To See My Baby's Face" a highlight on Aretha Franklin sadly overlooked "Running Out Of Fool's" album, here given a totally sensual gorgeous reading holding its own next to great Aretha version. Although joyous and magical "It's Magic" show writing credits by Jerry Ragovoy/Jacob Brockman, great rhythm number has the feel of a Bacharach/David song with those unusual and interesting tempo changes. 5.0 out of 5 stars Dionne Warwick's Best Warner Bros. label effort February 12, 2003
By M. Bell
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A old school mix of marvelous mellow harmonies expressed by Dionne Warwick. Hightlights include her first #1 record, "Then Came You" (with The Spinners) and the obscure "Move Me No Mountain". The most die hard Warwick fan should have this CD in their music collection. Music critic and reissue producer, David Nathan is responsible for bringing this rare 1975 album to CD for the first time. Kudos to him and his staff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dionne's Overlooked Masterpiece from 1975 June 8, 2003
Format:Audio CD
This has long been one of my favorite albums from Dionne Warwick as every song is well done and some are truly outstanding - I was 11 years old then and still love it today. In addition to the title hit "Then Came You" Dionne should have had another big hit with the very overlooked "Move Me No Mountain" which is a true gem in both vocal performance, arrangement and orchestration. Other great highlights include "It's Magic", "How Can I Tell Him", "I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face" and "Getting in My Way". This album is a real winner and Dionne's voice is primo - these songs still sound fresh today. I believe Dionne would have had more hits from this if Warner's had known what they were doing. Now if only her 1972 eponymous "Dionne" album (another gem) would be released then her best pre-Arista 1970s work could be widely rediscovered and enjoyed.
