A Story of God's Forgiveness and Redemption,
By
This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
This book is a magnificant story of God's unfalling love and forgiveness. It starts out with dark and discriptive details, that can make one a little uncomfortable at times, however, necessary to portray the deep, dark abscense of God's presence in the life of David Goldberg. But in the end Jesus Christ, show's His mercy and forgiveness, which is a free gift to all of us who are deep in sin and who ask for it. It is a powerful tribute to the love that God has for each and everyone of us and that no sin is without forgiveness. Thank you for this story, I pray those lost in sin, unable to feel worthy of God's love will find the hope they are looking for in this book.

Thought provoking read on God's Grace,
By
This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
I've never heard of biofiction before reading this book by Glenn Greenstein and Robert Parrish but I must say that I hope to find more biofiction put our by quality Christian authors. This book chronicles the story of a man who from his boyhood struggled with homosexuality, to a marriage, divorce to return to being a gay man, marriage, divorce, and then victory in Christ! This book had me gripped from the go since I never thought anyone could leave this lifestyle behind but I also know that the God I serve is great and He can do anything - He rescued me.This book is not for the faint of heart, it is descriptive, and in that respect I was somewhat taken aback because I tend to stay away from books like that but I also know what the author's intent was - to make the reader feel what being in this lifestyle is like - addicting and controlling. Satan was at work to destroy this man's life and he almost succeeded in doing so but once again our Lord pulls him from the depths and raises him up. Some scenes were heartbreaking, parents whose only concern is where their next fix is coming from and a dad who belittles the masculine side of his son as were the man, David's life as a man lost in an evil world. While I would say be cautious in who reads this I definitely see it being a benefit for those wanting to work with recovering homosexuals or who knows someone in that lifestyle. This book will hopefully make you stop and think the next you see a person living this life - David was shunned by Christians when he left that life and started attending a church - or who has left that life. As Christians we are told to hate the sin we are not to hate the person - God grieves at any of His people who leave Him and we need to do our best to bring the Truth to a hurting people while helping them heal. **I was provided a copy of this book from Robert Parrish in exchange for my honest opinion, no other compensation was given.

WOW!!! I started reading this book on a Friday night. As soon as I awoke on Saturday morning, I picked it up again. I knew this was a story about God's UNCONDITIONAL, LIMITLESS love and grace. I could not stop reading until I discovered how He would choose to deliver David from his life of hopelessness and destruction. While my story is very different from David's, I was repeatedly reminded of the pain and frustration I had felt during my search for acceptance, worth, and purpose. We all need to feel accepted, to know that we have value, and to know that our lives have meaning and purpose. This is what David was searching for, and this is what he found in Jesus. That is what this book is about. Thank You, God, for your relentless pursuit of David! You never stop loving us, and You never give up on us NO MATTER WHAT WE DO!There is no real, true life apart from Jesus. He is Life itself! He brought David out of darkness and despair. That is what Jesus will do for anyone and everyone who calls on His name for help. He is THE SOURCE of everything good. He wants to give everything He has to you--including His very Life. Just ask Him for it. When you do, you will never be the same again!

AND THEN CAME LIFE,
This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
This book reveals how GOD'S unfailing love is for ALL, John 3:16 " FOR LOVE SO LOVEDTHE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE." no matter what sins we have committed. The book reveals how the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD drew David to the book supernaturally, and the saving knowledge of JESUS CHRIST. How Jesus Christ can change anyone who comes to HIM and receives HIS FREE gift of eternal life. David's life was transformed into a new person; he has been delivered from past bondages, and from sins power. GOD has healed David, cleansed him and set him free. I believe every parent or future parent needs to read this book, it will help them not to make the same mistakes David's parents made. I can see how a child can feel so rejected and confused that they can fall pry into a degrading lifestyle. As David states he felt rejected, abandoned, and unloved by his family, and by his past lovers. Praise the LORD, David has married, and has a wonderful family! PLEASE READ THE BOOK, IT WILL CHANGE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY'S LIFE. Tommy-Ray Walters LEE COUNTY FULL GOSPEL BUSINESS MEN'S FELLOWSHIP IN AMERCIA (PRESIDENT)

Freedom from Devastation,
By

This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
And Then Came Life makes you squirm in your seat. As you read, devastation takes many forms. Rebellion, drugs, alcohol, and alternative lifestyles became the normal way of living for "David". Life doesn't always come along as we want or as we plan. Growing up in dysfunction can be ugly......and that ugliness can either break us down, or build us up for a greater good. In spite of this dysfunction, God's Word was introduced into David's life at an early age. Then came a life of despair. It took a great depth of courage to admit, to write, and then to publish David's story. God's Word never returns void. VICTORY comes through the Greatest Love of All. Jesus gives LIFE and is high and lifted up in the life of David, and his wife. He is the One who brought David through the devastation and gave Him the FREEDOM of peace and love and faith "David" now walks today. Excellent!! Excellent!!

"And Then Came Life" by Genn Greenstein and Robert Parrish,
This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
David felt "different" for as long as he could remember. His parents, especially his mother, recognized it, but were too caught up in drugs and alcohol themselves to really give him the love and affection he desired, thus driving David into the arms of other men to find the love and acceptance he craved. Through his Grandma's involvement, he went to church and gave his life to Jesus at a young age. She moved away and that influence was tossed aside.Always striving for affection and love, David delved into the Miami gay nightlife, going to and throwing extravagant parties and orgies. Yet throughout all this time, he found neither longtime love or affection. Interestingly, he would hear a Voice, telling him to go another direction, being told 'I love you.' But David ignored the Voice, as he didn't want to be told what to do. And Then Came Life is intense and sometimes very graphic. It shows the inattentiveness of the parents' input into a child's life because of their own selfishness, affecting the child disastrously. It displays the 'give and take' of bodily gratification, leaving one empty and lost. Most importantly, the book shows the consequences of choosing to ignore the guiding Voice, which, to me, is the voice of the Holy Spirit. It's a choice of wanting to do things one's own way and not wanting to be told what to do or obeying and living a life of true love. Will David eventually come to the end of himself? Surrender to the Voice? Or continue in the ways of emptiness of bodily gratification? After all, he's now 28 years old, which is getting old in the gay community. I was grieved throughout the story, not only because of his lifestyle choices and subsequent emptiness, but because of the lack of parental attentiveness due to drugs, alcohol, and social shame. I was also encouraged by the Voice David heard. Last of all, I want the readers to know that this is based on true events, so they can know there is redeeming hope. ***Special thanks to Robert Parrish for sending me a review copy.***

Many families include homosexual relatives - children, aunts or uncles - but understanding their motivations is often beyond understanding for traditional families. Amazing!,
By Debbie (Sebastian, FL, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: And Then Came Life (Paperback)
I took my time each night before going to sleep for a week and a half, when I would have no interruptions and read. Each time I put the bookmark in for the next night, I prayed for you and your family and thanked God for the miracle He brought forth and allowed us the chance to experience you all through fellowship. And Marie, your obedience to God and answering His call. Wow!! He drew you. You "had" to answer. Our respect for you all and love for our Lord God went so high. Not that we're elevating you but, In the kingdom of God, I believe the Angels rejoiced greatly. God knew where you would be now way back then and also what an impact this book would have on others. I will promote it greatly! What a blessing! I cried in many areas of my reading and find myself doing it again as I type this. The joy that overflows shows up and flows out! I know personally what God has done for you and what He has given you. You've shared God's heart with us and we watched you share with many others. Your obedience is such a blessing wherever you go. Be encouraged, David! Everyday God gives you strength is another day satan is angry and scared. We'll be praising God with you and your family. To those reading these reviews: I know this family, spent time in their home and worshipped with them. Their hearts are as big as God wants them to be. I cried through this book with a praying mother's heart. This family has made great sacrifices for the Lord and will continue because of their dedication to Him. Marie stands by him with more heart than even she knows, and their son keeps their life full. He's not a normal down syndrome child. He's very lovingly independent and a blessed young man because of his parents,(love displayed in home). They keep breaking barriers for God!! Praise the Lord! God knows our beginning through our end. "We're trying" to figure it out. Let us remember that and let Him have it all. Thank you Mr. Parrish for your obedience to God and dedication to this family in making this book happen. May God bless all involved. |
