4.0 out of 5 stars It's About Time!!, November 14, 2003
By
D. Hawkins (Denver, CO United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Then: Totally Oldies 80's (Audio CD)
Kazaa and other file sharing services have prospered primarily because many older songs (one-hit wonders from the 80's, for example) were not available anywhere else. I couldn't see spending over $20 for the Moving Pictures album just to hear the wonderful "What About Me," so I got it off Kazaa. It's good to see that it's finally been released on a compilation with other hard to find songs. Songs by Chillwack and Sneaker that I hadn't heard in decades brought a big smile to my face. Some of the songs here are available on endless 80's compilations already ("Jessie's Girl," " Relax," "I Melt with You") so this CD isn't a must buy, but the hard to find songs make it worthwhile. Now if only some great label (are you listening Rhino?) would make more CD's with impossible to find one-hit wonders, my life would be complete!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The right versions!, June 15, 2003
This review is from: Then: Totally Oldies 80's (Audio CD)
Finally! Some of these single versions I 've never seen on CD. Why did it take so long for the RADIO mixes of "I Ran" and "Dancing In Heaven" to make it to CD?

An excellent New Wave (and a few non-New Wave, but you can always program those out!) compilation. It's up there with the Rhino collections. Good liner notes, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 80's Memories! More Please?, November 4, 2006
This review is from: Then: Totally Oldies 80's (Audio CD)
My comments about this CD are pretty much going to echo the sentiments of the other reviews already posted here. I graduated from high school in 1982, and the '80s music brings back so many fond memories for me. But unfortunately the powers that be in charge of licensing songs for the '80s compilations seem to have their hands tied because the same tired songs show up on every '80s collection. Now, the reasons to buy this CD...

The Belle Stars - Iko Iko

Chilliwack - My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)

Sneaker - More Than Just The Two Of Us

Q-Feel - Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)

A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away) [radio edit]

Moving Pictures - What About Me

Everything else on this disc are songs that you can find on pretty much every other '80s collection out there.

There are so many other great, yet forgotten pop/rock hits of the '80s that should be released on CD. And if copyright holders of these songs wouldn't be so tight-fisted and allow them to be released on CD, we wouldn't need to pirate them from the internet. Other great songs like, Balance "Breakin' Away," Regina "Baby Love," Bertie Higgins "Just Another Day In Paradise," Bourgeois Tagg "I Don't Mind At All," Charlie Dore "Pilot Of The Airwaves" (Album Version), Dan Hartman "Second Nature," David and David "Welcome To the Boomtown," Deon Estus "Heaven Help Me," Diesel "Sausalito Summernight," Dionne & Friends "That's What Friends Are For," Greg Guidry "Goin' Down"... These songs and so many more like them are near impossible to find on CD. Come on Rhino Records, it's time for a true collection of the forgotten pop/rock hits of the '80s. But for now, if you are a true fan of the pop/rock music of the '80s, this CD is a must have, if only for the songs mentioned above!
