Book Description

November 1, 2008 1605203149 978-1605203140
Before he ascended to the highest office in the land as the United States’ youngest president, Theodore Roosevelt, with illustrations by Frederic Remington, though a New York City man born and bred, was a devotee of the Old West. In 1888, he published this charming ode to the American frontier, from the rewarding hard work of a rancher on the open plains to the pleasures of hunting the big game of mountains high. Today, the inimitable prose and infectious enthusiasm of Roosevelt’s writing here serves as much to limn a unique aspect of the character of the nation as it sings an elegy for a disappearing way of life. Includes numerous illustrations by Frederic Remington. Also available from Cosimo Classics: Roosevelt’s Letters to His Children, A Book-Lover’s Holidays in the Open, America and the World War, Through the Brazilian Wilderness and Papers on Natural History, The Strenuous Life: Essays and Addresses, and Historic Towns: New York Politician and soldier, naturalist and historian, American icon THEODORE ROOSEVELT, (1858–1919) was 26th President of the United States, serving from 1901 to 1909, and the first American to win a Nobel Prize, in 1906, when he was awarded the Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War. He is the author of 35 books.

5.0 out of 5 stars TR in the Badlands, March 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
TR once remarked that if it were not for his formative years in Dakota, still then the wild west, that he would not have been President.

Here is a wealthy, educated and connected man, who in profound irony seeks out a world that could not be more diametrically opposed. Yet, from earning the respect of his fellow cowboys who initially distrust anemic four eyed city slicker from the East whose initial goal is to kill a buffalo, to pursing and capturing a gang of bandits down the Little Missouri in blizzard conditions, TR rises to the challenge in this proving ground.

A must read adventure story of our 26th President. His experience in the Badlands gives immense insight to his character and is essential to understanding the man and legacy that is TR.
