5.0 out of 5 stars An ABSOLUTE MUST READ
I cannot give any book higher regard than I do "Theology for Beginners" by F. Sheed. I felt my spirit tingling with joy as I read this book, and found it as much a page-turner as ANY book, fiction or otherwise, I have ever read.

Difficult to read. Would not recommend. I muddle through it but won't keep it. I'll probably donate this book to my church's book sale collection. Don't buy. There are much better books on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ABSOLUTE MUST READ, June 8, 2000
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
I cannot give any book higher regard than I do "Theology for Beginners" by F. Sheed. I felt my spirit tingling with joy as I read this book, and found it as much a page-turner as ANY book, fiction or otherwise, I have ever read.

Mr. Sheed is one of those rare men who has an immense knowledge, yet can explain it in a way that makes it not only a pleasure to read but understandable as well. He brings to light the three most important concepts in life and theology: spirit, infinite and eternal. When reading Mr. Sheeds explanations of these concepts your view of life will likely be irrevocably changed.

If you want to know God, if you think you already know God, if you want to love God, if you already profess to love God, PLEASE read this book. Whatever God-laden yeast you bring to this book it will rise 100 fold into a baker's loaf!

Even if you doubt God exists, or think His existence can't be arrived at logically or by reason, read this book because you have a surprise waiting for you.

Forgive my exhuberance but I LOVE THIS BOOK - you will to. :)

P.S. Also read another book of Mr. Sheed's entitled "Theology and Sanity".

Sheed's "Theology for Beginners" is an excellent book. It is easy to read, and explains some difficult topics of Catholicism in an easy to understand style. Even if you only plan to read one or two books on your faith, I think this should definitely be one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars READ THIS BOOK, August 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
If you want to know God in a more profound way, this is the book to read. Sheed really delivers with his easy-to-understand, explanations about the mysteries of God, the Trinity, Mary and the Catholic faith. There were so many "lightbulbs turned on" in reading this book that I now feel immensely closer to God and more knowledgeable of His plan and His works. This book is invaluable as an introduction to Theology.

I am now reading Sheed's "Theology and Sanity", which is a deeper study of the subjects found in "Theology for Beginners".

"Theology for Beginners" is a MUST READ for anyone who wants to know God better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful...A must read for all Catholics., October 25, 1999
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
Theology for Beginners is the link between the Scriptures and the Cathechism of the Catholic Church. F J Sheed takes his time and explains theology in the layman's language. He constantly references Scripture (he asks the reader to stop and go to the scripture before continuing). He warns the reader of a difficult concept ahead of time so that the reader is prepared and not overwhelmed. Sheed says it best, "The theology which the theologians knows does not nourish the laity until they, too, learn it". Sheed is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theology For Beginners, July 11, 2000

If you are sincere in wanting to learn the truth about the teachings of the Catholic Church, this book is one of the best in giving you the truth in a very easy to understand manner. It takes you below the surface to the real meaning and understanding of what Jesus Christ wanted his followers to understand about Himself and about His Father and the Holy Spirit. I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to go deeper in understanding the teachings of the Catholic Church, and this is only the beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easily understood primer for Theology, July 22, 1999
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
Frank Sheed has a knack for explaining difficult subjects; his use of analogies helps tremendously. Even for a new Catholic convert like me, Frank Sheed's writings: "Theology and Sanity", "To Know Christ Jesus" along with "Theology for Beginners" have been great sources of enlightenment and brought me closer to knowing God and loving my new Catholic Faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Theology Primer, March 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
I am a Diaconate candidate and theology student. Francis Sheed has provided the most elementary, easily understood, and most complete description of The Holy Trinity that I have ever seen. All of the other topics in the book are treated with the same simplicity, accuracy, and zeal. This book is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book I treasure, July 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
Frank J Sheed's Theology for Beginners, is a book I have come to treasure, and have shared with many others, who have also come to value this authors easy writing style, and simplicity of argument. I found this book enlightening, and very satisfyingly logical in the arguments and examples provided in the text. Frank Sheeds writing style turns what could be an intimidating topic, into an easily readable test with an attractive style. I have recommended this book to many people who have also found its contents very satisfying. This is one of those books that sits in the section on my bookshelf for only the most treasure books. It is a really good introduction to understanding what Theology is and also for laying a foundation for future exploration or study of this subject. Read it. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clear, concise, readable presentation of Catholic theology, August 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
Frank Sheed presents very readable explanations of Catholic theology. His writing is replete with analogy and metaphor which make dogma and mystery all the more approachable. Anyone who can "explain" the Trinity the way Sheed does is a master.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master apologist, June 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Theology for Beginners (Paperback)
Frank Sheed has written a very readable, basic course on theology starting with an understandable definition of "spirit" (THE key word in theology) and moving thru the Trinity, creation, the incarnation.. all those topics Christians need to meditate on to understand who God is and who we are. There is also a subject index in the back of the book, so you can look up topics quickly. Sounds dry, but makes theology exciting to the layman!
