This is a very good book.
I recommend it for all the People of God especially in this culture that has become 'sex-oriented' in everything.
Why? Because we need to know the original intention of God for creating us. God created us in that state of Original nakedness, original solitude and original unity until we fell away from Him, we became so proud as if we would make it through on our own. But God did not leave us, He continues to appeal to the Human heart: this is why Augustine states "Our hearts are restless till they rest in God". We continue to yearn and long for the 'Original' in our state of concupiscence.
As you read this book, i would also recommend: Man and Woman he created them, A theology of the body by John Paul II found at amazon http://www.amazon.com/Man-Woman-He-Created-Them/dp/0819874213/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1284151983&sr=1-1

TOTB is an absolute treasure, left us by the late great Holy Father, John Paul II. Life changing. If you haven't read anything on it, this is a great way to sample it. If you already know about it and want to share the treasure with family, friends, or even acquaintances, this is the perfect way. Each "chapter" is a mere 2-page reading, perfect as an evening read. Well written--simple, yet not simplistic. Also excellent to equip parents for teaching their kids about sexuality, and for teens to read. I bought a whole batch to give away...will have to replenish soon!

I do not believe your religion, denomination, or any other self claimed adjective should keep you from reading this book. The insight it provides into being a sexual being is profound, applicable, and satisfying. I have recommended it to numerous friends, religious, irreligious, homosexual, and heterosexual. Tremendous book.

Theology of The Body in Simple Language,Pope John Paul II.

ISBN 978-1442141049,185 pages,softcover,Philokalia Books.

Whether you are Catholic,Protestant or not, there is no denying the influence Pope John Paul The Second has had on the World as a whole. The only problem I have is when he visited Cuba even though he never visited that I am aware of any Iron Curtain countries during the Coldwar,Since he was Polish and he was for Poland being finally Free which I duly Admire however,I felt the Visit to Cuba was a Waste but I digress,Other than that,There is no Denying Pope John Paul, his Leadership and his Holiness.Makes any Catholic smile just like Pope Benedict Makes me smile with his wisdom and Staunch (So Far so good,Conservatism). The Church has never strayed, people may have done evil but the Church is eternal. The book touches all subjects related to What one's purpose is here on earth in this body as far as Matters of Love,Lust, etcera. It is brief but straight to the point,With Scripture,Great insight into Saul(St.Paul),Peter, and Jesus 's words to The Saducees and others who were trying of all things to Tempt The Good Lord, questioning in regards to Divorce that go back to the Old Testament,The Lord ReAffirms it all as do his followers to The Corinthians and now up to the Modern day. Also Covers Celibacy and the beauty of those who have the discipline and the Goodness to become so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Approachable yet Profound, September 12, 2011

I chose this version of Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body because I was a bit intimidated by other versions. The format of the book is perfect. The chapters summarize the ideas in a succinct yet complete way that gives the reader flexibility to read many or few pages at one time.

The content of the book is...wow. I have never read a book on this topic that so changed my perspectives on the meaning of sexuality, the differences between men and women, and even my own faith. Pope John Paul II uses scripture to discuss the meaning of the body at the creation of mankind, what happened to our understanding when sin entered the world, and what Jesus's life and death means for our understanding of the theology of the body. I would recommend this book to anyone who is seeking to understand sexuality from a Christian perspective.
