Professor van Deussen has in this book, done what many pastors have tried to pull off, but have not been successful. How does one balance their pastoral psychological training with the theological doctrines learned on other occasions? It is not so easy a task--but we have van Deussen to thank for her brilliant work here, because she shows us the way to do "pastoral theology" and to do it remarkably well. Though her thesis may be disputed by some, I have found it to be revolutionary and thought-provoking. A must read for the pastor who wants to combine both disciplines effectively and faithfully, without giving up either.
