Laws of Perception,
By A Customer
This review is from: Theory and Practice of Color: A Color Theory Based on Laws of Perception (Hardcover)
Theory and Practice of Color aims to span the gap between the world of the arts - at every level from watercolors to wallpaper - and the world of the sciences. It offers new insights about the way we perceive and distinguish colors and react to them aestetically.Based on the latest theories and facts about the perception of color, including Frans Gerritsen's new color circle, Theory and Practice of Color reviews historical color theories - some of them erroneously derived from what we now know to be the limited applications of paint mixing. A more accurate understanding of color is communicated through discussion of the mechanisms of color perception and all the physical factors that incluence it. Students at every stage of awareness will gain much from the graphs and diagrams which demonstrate the structures and wavelength sensitivities of the eye; the basic differences between additive, subtractive and partitive color mixing; the phenomena of complimentary, simultaneous and successive contrast; fluorescent, phosphorescent and metameric colors; and the effects of reflection and dispersion on color perception. Professionals concerned with color theory, its application in the fine arts as well as its uses in technology and industry, will be especially interested in the original discussion of color measurement. Throughout the book there are many suggestions offered for extending the range of color sensitivity and the use of color. Training suggestions, experiments, and an account of some of the age-old-psychological meanings of color are also included. |
