Excellent resource - but not on Kindle,

This review is from: Theory and Practice of Counseling & Psychotherapy, 8th Edition (Kindle Edition)
I found this to be an excellent resource of information, particularly the various therapeutic approaches. However, I was extremely disappointed that I had ordered via my Kindle rather than hard copy. The charts provided in the book are not legible in the Kindle edition and for $80+, I felt cheated from crucial study material contained in the compact format of the various charts.

Corey's Theory & Practice of Counseling & Psychotherapy,

This review is from: Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book, and probably the best of its kind. It guides you through the various approaches to psychotherapy, giving you all the details necessary for you to comprehend each method fully as well as to compare the methods with one another. The comparison becomes even easier as Corey presents the case of "Stan" at the end of each chapter and demonstrates how each approach would deal with his dilemma. I think this book is interesting for anyone who likes psychology and psychotherapy, but is a must for people looking to go into the profession of psychotherapy in order to attain a broad perspective about techniques and approaches that may be employed according to one's personality and style, as well as each unique client's needs..

Great Text for Counseling Students,
This review is from: Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
I was assigned this text for my Theories of Counseling class my first semester in graduate school. Corey does a great job of breaking down 14 different therapeutic theories into their most basic principles. This is a great book for anyone interested in learning about becoming a therapist or for that journeyman therapist who needs a quick refresher.

I thought that the book would provide more detailed information
regarding the major concepts of the various theories. I was also disappointed that it did not offer specific information about the most popular interventions. It was more of an introduction to various theories. It did not offer what I needed which was a thorough review of each theory. However, it is a good introductory book at the Undergraduate level.

El libro fue recomendado para una de las clases que estoy tomando en el Programa de Consejería en Rehabilitación y me parece que explica de forma clara y sencilla las distintas teorias que se envuelven en un proceso psicoterapeutico.

This text is easy to read. Different sections are devoted to different types of psychotherapy and chapters are broken down to individual styles within those types. Additional sections that "compare and contrast" the different types of therapy help to clarify the ways the therapies are similar and different.

I love this book! I used the 2nd edition, save yourself some money and use that edition for your theories class!! it is the best book. I had used it in undergrad, it was used in another grad school, and I loved it so much i rebought it for my own graduate theories class to supplement the required text. it presents the theories in such an understandable way! never read a better written theories book. the appendix is also tremendously helpful in summarazing and comparing the theories, giving examples of them in use.
I will keep this book for a long time!

Corey's Therapeutic Book,
By
This review is from: Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
The author's style is flowing and easy to follow..however, a little too redundant at times. I would actually expect a therapeutic book to be full of real life, therapist/client examples so I could grasp some of the vague concepts; the book does not provide that many examples, which left me uncertain sometimes at how a technique or a therapeutic concept can be applied in a clinical setting.

Informative textbook, great site to work with.,
This review is from: Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
This book was required for my psych class however, it is extremely useful to describe and summarize the various theories of counseling. Whats better is I order the same book from Barnes and Noble's certified used book section and waited 5 weeks for what was supposed to only take 14 days. B&N were not all helpful in returning my money for the book I had paid for and never got, they told me I was on my own. Finally I got a refund. I ordered the book from Amazon and it came on time as it was supposed to. Amazon was like a dream to work with compared to B&N. Thanks Amazon you saved a student! I also will continue to use Amazon from now on!
