I bought three different review guides, and this was definitely the most helpful to me in passing my NCBTM exam! I love how the format was laid out. Just like it says "plain & simple". The 3 practice exams on the CD-ROM were what made me want to buy this review guide, and they proved to be very helpful as well. It gave you an excellent idea of how the actual exam is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very basic
For those of you looking for one or two comprehensive volumes to truly prepare you, think twice about this book. There are three chapters covered that you are not even tested on, all of which have tons of information. The emphasis of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology details is lacking in the book in comparison to the material covered in the test. I am not allowed to...

I bought three different review guides, and this was definitely the most helpful to me in passing my NCBTM exam! I love how the format was laid out. Just like it says "plain & simple". The 3 practice exams on the CD-ROM were what made me want to buy this review guide, and they proved to be very helpful as well. It gave you an excellent idea of how the actual exam is. There were a lot of similarly worded questions on the practice exams that were on my NCBTM exam.
*A word to the wise: use this guide as well as a "Review Guide for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Certification by J. Ashton", plus outside information/books, etc. on eastern medicine and holistic medicine(because I haven't found a review book that gets that in depth with these subjects), and you'll do fine on the NCBTM/B test. Don't overlook medical terminology, the body systems, and pathology. There's a lot of that on the test, and this review guide is great for studying that. Don't cram though! Give your self a good month, month 1/2 to study an hour each day if possible. The guide is good for giving little tips for studying. It's such an easy read, just read it cover to cover, without the mindset that you have to "memorize" every little detail. I found that trying to do that is just too overwhelming. Repetion is the key. That's why I suggest two different guides, even though they have a lot of the same information. I think it helps to see it from two different angles.

I purchased this book as a study tool for the final exam as well as national certification. I was pleasantly surprised with the wealth of information that is provided in the book and on the practice test cd. I am amazed at how much I have learned and reinforced by reviewing the book and the practice tests. Thank you to Laura Allen for providing a wonderful study and reference guide for massage therapists and students!

I had received this book to prepare for the NCE. It was a great way to help me study things for the test that I may have not been fully aware of. It really helped with anatomy and meridians! Even now as a licensed therapist, I look at it to help me remember some things that I may have forgotten! Thanks Laura Allen for writing this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great review guide, May 13, 2007
This review is from: Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Certification (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Paperback)
This was the 5th review guide I bought and I wish I had bought this first.
Great guide, easy to follow text and test questions on each of the 26 chapters. Chapter are only 5 to 8 pages long with the main focus of
each body system listed with explanations.. The cd tests were awesome
and I feel better prepared to take the NCETM for those of you who know
the difference.

Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars The best review book around . . . period, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Certification (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Paperback)
I used several review books when studying for the National exam. This one is by far and away the best. It presents information clearly and concisely. The sections in each chapter marked "What you need to know" were immensely helpful. It boiled down the information you need to know in order to pass your exam. I am convinced that the reason I did so well on my exam was because of this book.

This study guide was a great help. Covered what was essential and didn't include unnecessary and time consuming topics not on the test. The format was truly study friendly.

Out of all the review books that I have been thought this one was by far the most helpful. It really prepared me for the national exam! Like it says, it is plain and simple and very concice. It was very cost effective in comparison with any other review books. The practice tests on the CD were very much like the actual exam. I just think that they should have put more tests on the CD. In general, the best review book that I know of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for review, not sure about the actual test, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Certification (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Paperback)
The guide was a helpful tool to review the information previous learned from the classroom, in addition to other material that was not offered in my case. However, when it comes to the actual national certification exam, once again, in my case, a lot of the material did not apply, but that's not to say it won't be in there the next time I have to take it for re-certification. Overall, I think it's a good booklet to have and do not consider it to be a waste of money.

I really enjoyed this book. It was more helpful than the one I purchased from the NCBTMB. It gives thorough information on all subjects presented on the test. I studied (sort of) for two weeks. I passed my exam first try. I took the NCETMB. I think this would be a great review book for school also.
