Laura Allen is the author of the Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Examinations (2nd ed, LWW, 2009) and One Year to a Successful Massage Therapy Practice (LWW, 2008. Her latest book, A Massage Therapist's Guide to Business, was published in January 2011.

She has although authored a romance novel, Affair of the Heart, that's available as an e-book through Amazon and affiliated sites. Before coming to the massage therapy profession, Allen was a chef and restaurant owner for more than 20 years, and she has also authored a cookbook, Nothin' Fancy, Good Food and a Few Funny Stories, that is also available on Amazon.

Allen is an Approved Provider of Continuing Education under the NCBTMB, a a regular contributor to Massage Magazine, Massage & Bodywork Magazine, and Massage News. Her blog appears on the Massage Magazine website, the Massage Today website, and www.massageprofessionals.com

In 2011, Laura Allen was honored at the American Massage Conference as the 2011 National Massage Therapist of the Year, and was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame during the World Massage Festival.

Anita Zimmerman's review noted the lack of a CD with practice tests. While that existed in the first edition, the second edition comes with a website instead, including a killer test generator. Hundreds of practice questions are available. It is password-protected; when you receive your book look right inside the front cover for the website and your scratch-off password.

On June 27, 2011 I passed the NCETM and I am now Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage. This book and the accompanying practice tests and games that were included on the LLW.com website added a fun way of retaining the information presented and I found them to be a wonderful resource. This book definitely lives up to its title of "Plain & Simple". I honestly don't think Laura Allen could have made it much simpler for anyone to study only the information specifically needed to pass the exam with a lot of fluff.

This book had greatly prepared me for the exam. She made fun to study with the companion of on-line questions and games that also helped. Laura also made everything easy to understand. I will refer this book to my fellow classmates that have yet to take the exam. Needless to say; I passed the exam!
