5.0 out of 5 stars Had both of mine for over three years, gave another to my sis
We initially bought one for our basement to get rid of the mildewy smell. It worked so great that we bought another for our bedroom and then another for our motor home. I run them continously, clean them about month and my allergy problems nearly disappeared. My sister lives in a very old house and the basement has been wet more than once. She refinished it...

1.0 out of 5 stars If there were NO STARS that's the rating I would give!!, August 17, 2009
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
I bought this back in December of last year. It was working great! I couldn't smell any odors from the dog or from the kitchen. But within the last 2 months, it stopped working. I was shocked! I thought if I clean out the filters like they suggest, it might solve the problem, but it didn't. After realizing that the unit is in fact not working even the slightest bit, I called the manufacturer, TherapureAir, about the 1 year warranty.

I have seen some bad warranties, but they sure top the list of them! First, they told me to pay to ship the unit back to them, and then they informed me that on top of that, I would have to pay $30 to them, to have a new unit shipped to me. When I asked why I would be paying $30, they stated that I have to cover the "processing fee plus their own shipping and handling."
I was angered and told the guy that if I am shelling out close to $50 for a new unit that might break down again after only 6 months of use, then I mine as well buy a new and different brand unit.

So I thought the money that I would have to shell out for a new unit was bad...but it got worse!
After complaining and telling the guy how it worked great for the first 6 months and then just stopped working, he then confessed that most of their units tend to do that. He said they work 100% for the first few months when you get them, but then afterwards, tend to only work about 40-60%. THIS GUY BASICALLY SAID THEIR UNITS DON'T WORK FOR A LONG TIME AND THAT THEIR PRODUCTS ARE NOT ALL THEY ARE CLAIMING TO BE.

Needless to say, I was outraged and am taking the time to write this review so NO ONE wastes their hard earned money on this piece of junk that the manufacturer even admitted to not working 100% after only a few months.

We initially bought one for our basement to get rid of the mildewy smell. It worked so great that we bought another for our bedroom and then another for our motor home. I run them continously, clean them about month and my allergy problems nearly disappeared. My sister lives in a very old house and the basement has been wet more than once. She refinished it and put her bedroom down there and suddenly started having one sinus infection after another. I gave her the one from our motor home and within two days she had symptom relief. Now I am researching costs because my parents want to purchase one or two of them. The white noise that they produce is just an added bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than expected!, December 31, 2009
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
I started a new job in the fall of 2008 at a health clinic. I am never sick, but after starting the job I was sick for 4 months straight. Many of the people working here were sick frequently. We had tests done and found that the mold count was off the charts... It also didn't help that most of the people we see are sick. My agency was kind enough to purchase us one of these units for our office. We're sure to maintain it by cleaning the filters as instructed every month. It's been working for us for over a year and we haven't been sick since purchasing it!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too impressed, March 27, 2009

Ok so I bought this for my baby's room and it does it's job. My only complaint is that it's so loud on the medium or high settings. The low setting is quiet but the others make you feel like a tornado is coming. I must say that I thought it would be quieter than what it is. I'm not impressed.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's stinking up the room!, June 18, 2011

Due to a mold problem in our condo I bought one of these less than six months ago at a department store (sorry, Amazon, now I know better). You are supposed to be able to clean the "permanent" filter just by vacuuming it, but, it doesn't really get it that clean.

After three months the UV bulb started flickering then finally went out. When it did, the whole room started to stink.

Per Therapure support, the "permanent" filter isn't so permanent and a replacement filter and bulb can only be obtained through them, not in any store or anywhere online . Would cost me over $50 for a new "permanent" filter (that isn't so permanent) and a replacement bulb.

Since I'd probably just need to buy more filters and bulbs in another few months, it would the same just to buy a new unit every 6-8 months. I'll pass...

Follow-Up you can get the bulb here on Amazon using the following link:

2.0 out of 5 stars Comparatively cheap, but cheaply made, March 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
This unit would only get one star from me if it were not for the fact that it is one of the cheaper units with the features it has in this price-gouging product space. Which just means there is less gouging, not that it is fairly priced.

First off, unless I was buying a knock-off copy of some other company's design, I expect even a cheap unit to have a balanced fan. It isn't that hard to ensure that a fan can handle several hundred RPM without vibrating. This was not such a big deal to me personally, since I was planning on running it on the slow setting (which is very quiet) because people who know what they are talking about cite the UV/photocatalyst for being underpowered for the filter throughput. However it didn't impress me that turning up to high shook the floor enough to sound like there was an idling garbage truck parked in my driveway. I've had boxfans that were better balanced than this.

Secondly, if you are going to put a UV bulb near a shaking fan, it should be a damn durable UV bulb. Mine lasted until my housemate cranked the unit when I wasn't around for a week. By the end of the week, the UV bulb had blown -- at this point the unit was only in operation for 4 months, mostly on low speed.

Thirdly, this company makes you call it directly for replacement bulbs -- they do not seem to want to allow the retailers to sell them. Of course (like any other air filter company) they gouge you for the replacements compared to equivalent generics. Replacing the bulb is not as convenient as going to amazon and ordering a new one.

I'll probably pay the ransom and get a new bulb -- once. After that I'll probably gut the thing to remove the UV high voltage electronics for safety and just use it as a normal filter.

I would recommend potential buyer avoid this product, and check when buying that not only the filter is cleanable (in this case it is) but also that any lamps are available for purchase from third parties, to protect your investment.

3.0 out of 5 stars So far does not seem to live up to the reputation, July 6, 2010
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
The jury still seems to be out on this Therapure air purifier. I have ordered it almost a month ago, and have yet to experience any tangible results with it. I use it in the bedroom during the night to keep the air clean and moving, and have not really noticed any improvement in the air quality at all. And my bedroom is quite a bit smaller than the 182sq feet max capacity.
BTW this item has an option of running only the air filtration or also the UV purification - I always turn on both.

I just looked at the filter, and not much seems to be caught on it during last several weeks.
Yet ever since I moved to this place, there has been a strange, rather creepy looking white powder constantly descending from some mysterious source on all the surfaces in the house - and no, it is NOT just dust, as it accumulates at the rate lot higher than normal dust would. The only place I can guess it would be coming from would be the carpet, as the carpet was put in right before I moved in, and chances are it was some pretty poor, rock bottom quality, just to make the place look good.
So I was hoping there would be lot of that white powder attached to the filter, however I have really not noticed any.

I am giving the product three stars, mainly because it has such an excellent reputation, so I will keep an open mind and will give it more time, and a really good, conclusive test drive - and will report back in next several months. Comment | Permalink

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 19, 2012
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
I've had this since a week before Christmas and I LOVE it! My mom stayed with me over the holidays and was so impressed by it, she went back home and bought herself one too. Its amazing that it cleans the air so well in my condo. I can breathe so much better and it has definitely cut down on the dust.

I plan on buying another one for my bedroom.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quiet, power efficient, but a little weak, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Therapure® TPP201M Germicidal Air Purifier Tower (Kitchen)
PROS:
1) very quiet on low, good on medium, and not too bad on high. I have a humidifier and another air purifier and they are much louder at low speed.
2) very power efficient 18W on low, 25W on medium, and 40W on high (Power factor above 0.8).
3) has two fans, on bottom and top.

CONS:
1) Mixed message whether it has ionizer. The box say it does, but the online information and manual don't mention anything about it. I thought this was a good selling point (I want one) and should have been stated in the manual. So, I think it is a false advertisement on the box! I bought this from Walmart, which by the way much cheaper than Amazon for this product.
2) The UV is so small (3w) and only covers the lower fan. I doubt that the air going though the upper fan will see any UV.
3) I only see the HEPA filter, not the "photo catalyst" filter. If it's there it must have been hidden somewhere and very small.

Overall, not impressed. I tried it for a night in my bedroom and don't see any difference (but I had centrl A/C circulating the air). The cons are too much for me to take so this is going back.
