5.0 out of 5 stars Great feelings from this CD!!!
The beginning of Dave Seaman's CD is particularly lush. What a great opener. It launches you into track after track of beautiful little gems. There is a surprise around every corner. My opinion is that is has an overall more sophisticated and complex sound element to it. The boundaries are pushed and pulled here my friends.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, if maybe a little dissapointing
This album obviously has very high expectations containing, first off, a mix by Dave Seaman, a DJ who refuses to release anything less than great DJ mixes. Secondly, it's from Renaissance, the label that revolutionized the DJ mix album, and also refuses to release anything less than great DJ mix albums. And lastly, it contains a mix by alleged super DJ, Phil K, who is...

My opinion is that is has an overall more sophisticated and complex sound element to it. The boundaries are pushed and pulled here my friends.

It bounces through leaving you to understand and appreciate music a little more. I think this album was carefully thought out and his direction is growing more and more with the careful track selection. The mixing is flawless and surprises me at times.

The sounds are very different and not in your usual context. Both CD's impress me greatly. For all the Dave Seaman followers out there, this CD will leave you feeling like no other has in a long time.

Renaissance does it again. Merging two well defined DJ's together and creating possibly one of the best CDs to date.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, if maybe a little dissapointing, July 22, 2004

This album obviously has very high expectations containing, first off, a mix by Dave Seaman, a DJ who refuses to release anything less than great DJ mixes. Secondly, it's from Renaissance, the label that revolutionized the DJ mix album, and also refuses to release anything less than great DJ mix albums. And lastly, it contains a mix by alleged super DJ, Phil K, who is heralded as "technically the best" by his peers. So this mix has lot of hype going for it. Does it live up to it? Not quite.

Dave Seaman's mix is a standard progressive house mix. The first track caught my ear right away with it's spacey tribal beats and floating synths, and from there, listening to the mix the whole way through, I didn't hear much that I didn't like. Dave spins deep, melodic progressive house with deep basslines and repetitive thumping beats with just enough melody to keep everyone awake. Some of the better tracks include Sterio & McGrath's "Hostile Ground", Cass' "Giant", and Stel & Good Newz' "Particle", the latter of which might be one of the best progressive house tracks I've ever heard. The rolling bassline and epic chiming synths are just out of this world. A perfect closer. Progressive house fans should be weary however, as Seaman spins some very serious progressive house. He eschews funky basslines and tribal beats for droning, repetitive percussions with airy melodies that will probably appeal more to trance fans than your average house fan. It's a kind of middle of the road approach I suppose. Be forewarned.

Phil K's mix is interesting. Starting off with some gorgeous down-tempo breakbeat numbers, he creates a lush intro that will instantly transport you to another world. He doesn't waste time picking up the pace though, and by about midway through the CD, you're listening to some of the funkiest breakbeats you've ever heard. Some are very catchy and will force you to move with the music, while others are just abrasive and hard to listen to. Definitely interesting stuff though. I particularly enjoyed Vance Musgrove's "Music In The 24th & a half Century", and Nubreed's "One Day". Listen with an open mind, and you'll more than likely find something you enjoy.

Though not among the best Renaissance or Dave Seaman have ever released, this is still a worthy purchase. I recommend Dave Seaman and breakbeat fans check it out, though don't be surprised when high expectations are not quite met.

3.0 out of 5 stars if only this was just phil!, February 12, 2006
This review is from: The Therapy Sessions (Audio CD)
I bought this cd for a raod trip and honestly i found myself skipping throught all but 1 song on the dave side, and i almost wrote the purchase off as a lose of money until i for the heck of it put in the "other" cd by the guy i had never heard of and i could not have been happier.

With the exception of a couple of songs i fell in love with his song selection. #5 is the standout.

It is worth the money just for the second cd. I promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Therapy!, May 14, 2004

This album is awesome! Renaissance has not failed in delivering another fantastic, yet still diverse album.

Dave Seaman's Mix is deep, dark, and dangerously sexy with great tracks like the opening track from Habersham and other tunes from great artists such as Cass, Powerplant, Infusion, and of course "the Push (Far From Here)" from Paul Jackson teamed up with Steve Smith from Dirty Vegas.

Phil K's Mix brings a great quality to the album - DIVERSITY! rather than giving the same thing twice Phil K delivers great technoish breaks that are not chaotic but chillingly deep and cool like Vance Musgrove's "Music In The 24th & A Half Century".

5 Stars and two thumbs up for this one.

You think this album is good?
Get Renaissance Masters - Hernan Cattaneo - awesome!!

This double disc is absolutely sick people. If you know how Dave is then you know it's good. Never heard of Phil K but now I'm looking for all his stuff. These mixes are worth more than what you'll pay for them. 10 stars!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars two great discs that balance each other nicely., June 4, 2004
This review is from: The Therapy Sessions (Audio CD)
Rather than the standard two discs mixed by one dj we're getting two by different dj's. (Like the fabulous Fatboy Slim/Oakenfold essential mix) These guys obviously come from different places in someways musically but somehow these two discs work nicely with each other. Seaman is by far one of the most underappreciated artists in dance music and it's always nice to see new talent that is exceptional. hope to see more from phil k because there aren't enough great breakbeat dj's out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars seaman cd good phil k cd ehhhh, May 10, 2004

first off this compulation takes more than a quick listen to enjoy. It doesnt have huge club bangers that takes one listen to enjoy it has more of a smooth sounding house feel. Cd1 is very good if you listen from beginning to end dave really made each track blend and seem like they belong together and yes i agree with the other review that some of the versions he used aren't as good as others but these versions worked perfectly for his style of mixing on this cd. I really liked cd1 but cd2 lost me.The start is good till about track 6 when he goes crazy with the breakbeats. It seems like alot of djs are trying to force breakbeats in their albums cause there popular now, when they shouldn't. Well anyways i think its worth buying solely for cd1 but like i said cd2 was a bit dissapointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars therapy, June 13, 2004
This review is from: The Therapy Sessions (Audio CD)
This CD kicks ass!! I have lots of Dave Seaman cd's and i was glad to hear this is just as good and it definatly grew on me. Now cd2 is just as good if not a little better in my opinion. Its mostly breaks and a couple of techno/house tracks. At around track 6 it moves into a all breaks fest of cool ass stuff. Now I never listened to too much breaks but this cd goes good with the other one. (cd one) Neither heve i listened to other Phil K. THis is a great introduction. Out of 20 stars i would give it 19, probably cuz i didnt literally fall off my chair. Less than 3 stars I cant agree with. You probably didnt do what youre supposed to do and listen to it a few times.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really a true Renaissance title, so what'd you expect?, June 8, 2004

Here's what you need to know... Most of the tracks featured on this compilation are from the Audio Therapy record label - hance the "Therapy" in the title. Although Audio Therapy is a decent label, and these are some decent tracks, the album itself is nothing special.

Disc one gets off to an incredibly slow start. Maybe Dave was busy doing something else while mixing, so he just put on some long, slow records so he could walk away from the decks for a while! It isn't until track 3 that the pace finally starts to pick up, and the sounds start to get interesting. Dave's mix has its moments - the version of Paul Jackson's The Push is great, but sounds out of place after Infusion's Girls Can Be Cruel. The Redanka track is pretty awful, but is situated between two of the best tracks in the mix - Ernest St. Lauren's Do Ya Dub, and Stel & Good Newz - Particle.

Disc two gets off to an even slower start. In fact, I reccomend skipping the first track entirely. There are a few good tracks on this breaks mix, but not much variety. The Operator's Furball is amazing, but I first heard the track almost two years ago on another, better, Phil K mix. The mix I mentioned was a free promo CD from a UK magazine and remains one of the best mixes I've ever heard. In fact, Phil K.'s reputation was the main selling point for me to buy this album. But poor track selections like the worst tune of the year - Born Too Slow, and that horrible track 1, make this mix pretty hard to listen too.

Skip this album and get a true Renaissance title.
