About Kanta Barrios
Kanta had her first experience of yoga at the age of six in her hometown Mexico City. She spent 12 years as a long term resident student of yoga, meditation, and philosophy in Siddha Yoga Meditation Ashrams in India, the United States and around the world traveling with her main teacher, Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. She has also studied Yoga and Therapeutics with some of the world's leading yoga teachers and Yoga Schools. In her teaching she expresses her deep love and gratitude for yoga and her teachers and joyfully shares her lifelong experience and practice with her students. She is passionate about yoga therapeutics, meditation and philosophy. She believes a steady yoga and meditation practice with a clear intention can open and strengthen the body, mind and heart and help us improve in every aspect of our lives.

Although I was unfamiliar with instructor Kanta Barrios prior to purchasing this DVD, I did some research and found out that she is Anusara-trained, which was one of the main things that attracted me to this video. In fact, her instruction feels very similar to the Anusara classes which I have attended.

Barrios speaks with a moderate European accent. She is featured in a pretty outdoor garden setting, and she instructs via voiceover. She utilizes several props during this practice, including a strap, a yoga block, a blanket, a bolster, and a chair. When the DVD loads, in brings up a chapter menu allowing you to select any of the individual segments or to play the entire practice. I have provided a brief overview of each section below.

Introduction (1 minute)
Barrios offers a brief into about the benefits of yoga to help the back.

WARM-UP (9.5 minutes)
Barrios starts here centered for mindful breathing. She then moves to all fours for cat/cow stretches. Coming to standing, she moves through side bends and some slow, modified sun salutations which include high lunge. This segment felt very slow-moving, especially given that there are nature images (daffodils) which come on-screen as pauses prior to moving onto the next pose.

HIP OPENER EXERCISES (12.5 minutes)
For this segment, Barrios begins by holding a low lunge position. Coming to standing, she performs side angle pose (offering excellent cuing for this) and then moves back to seated for half lord of the fishes pose. Lying down on her back, she does thread-the-needed, a windshield wiper twist, and a twist with the opposite foot on knee.

The yoga exercises were perfect for my sore and weak back. I felt very relaxed after the video. However, it does require a block, blanket, yoga strap/belt, and chair for some of the exercises. So make sure you are prepared :)

I always wanted to find something to releieve the pain and tension in my back,this is a great solution, very easy to understand the poses and techniques,the results are noticeable and impresive.This video proves how wonderful Yoga is. Very happy with it, I recommend you try it.

I received this dvd 5 days ago and so far it's been working great for me. I have tried yoga maybe only a handful of times and that was years ago. I appreciate the slow pace, and the calm/tranquil environment helps with stress relief. I hate getting out of bed in the morning however following this dvd first thing gives me a good wake-up call with gradual stretching that feels great on my muscles. Also it was important to me that I can do a 30min yoga session versus a full hour. This dvd is broken up into multiple chapters so that's especially nice that I can do the brief warm-up and then pair it with the lower back/hip/etc.chapter without having to do the entire dvd at one time.

I chose this rating because, first of all, it is a free video with Amazon Prime membership. Second, as someone who suffers regularly from low back pain, and is used to doing the standard stretching routines learned in physical therapy, this yoga video incorporates those movements along with a variety if others that I never knew. After several days if doing this I have come to realize why I tweak my back so often. I am extremely tight in the hamstring and hip areas. This video targets the hips like no other therapy I have done. Again, it's FREE!

This video is great for lower back pain. It focuses mostly on stretching the legs and back with proper alignment. I'd say I'm an intermediate yogi but when my Lumbrosacral Radiculopathy (fancy name for disc problems) flairs up, I need to be stretched and strengthened. This video does just as it is advertised. I'll be keeping this one in my back pocket for whenever I have an episode.

This video truly helps get rid of my lower back pain. And you get your money's worth since it's a full hour long. It's set outdoors and it's very tranquil. I rented it first and discovered it works, so then I purchased it. Well worth it.

i found the yoga routine okay, and my back definately felt better afterwards. i didn't find the poses very challenging and i wanted a little bit more to work out the kinks and stress. however, a very gentle routine and geared towards those who may need a little more gentle postures or just starting out in yoga. the audio and visual is a little stale. would have been more meditative with better music quality or picture quality. her voice is nice though.
