4.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners October 26, 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is very simple to follow and learn about Theravada Buddhism. I'm a Theravada Buddhist and I bought it so I can read it to my daughter (who is currently only 17 months old but she will grow into the book).

This book is good for anyone interested in an intro to buddhism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accesible and Concise. April 22, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book does exactly what it states. It gives you the bear heart of what Theravada Buddhism is, what those who practice it generally think as well as the layman views on it from east and western points. It does it in a way which is long and deep enough to give you what you want to know and a little more. Without over complicating it with alot of opinions, and degressions! Absolutely worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLE AND clear! January 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got this book because it's title says: Simple!
I like simple, especially in subjects that may be daunting due to strange terminology.
The author took.pains to present the subject understandably and with clear definitions of Pali and Sanskrit words.
Well done!

I purchased this book as I am new to the Buddhist teachings and wanted to learn the basics. This is a great little book that you can read in an afternoon and covers just that, the basic teachings and practices of Buddhism. It is an easy read and I recommend as a starter book in learning Buddhism.

I started to give the book 4 stars, because it has ink underlining on several pages, but....it is a used book, and other than that, it was in new condition. So.....5 stars.
