There's No Home is the second full-length release from Jana Hunter. Recorded over two consecutive weeks in Fall 2006 at a friend's home in Houston, TX, the album features Hunter writing, playing and producing throughout. While Hunter plays most of the instruments herself, she's aided and abetted here by her brother John (Inoculist, Dethro Skull), John Adams (Fatal Flying Guilloteens) and Matt Brownlie (Bring Back the Guns), among others. Hunter's full-length debut, Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom, was the inaugural release on Gnomonsong, a label founded by Banhart and Vetiver's Andy Cabic in conjunction with Revolver USA.

I have only heard four songs off of this record so far, but those four and the thirty second snippets of the other eleven have me wrapping myself up in lightning rod toilet paper and stupefying me into a dead emperor mummy. This means it is great and will only get better with posterity. Jana is the greatest living songwriter - possibly the greatest songwriter since stephen foster, gerschwin, even shakespeare (if you wanna call those songs). Wait. I like a lot of other songwriters, poets, singers, whatever that are alive, but Jana's work resonates with me more than anyone else's. "Bird"'s apocryphal appalachian melody turns agnostics into soulful believers of the Hunter. "There's no home," the title track, is like some mean creeper weed - when the drums kick in, you know you've been high for a while. "Babies" recalls (to me) some songs off of Dylan's Bringing it all back home, with one of the Reid brothers from Jesus and Mary Chain blessing the recordings w/ holy water. You know, acoustic guitar with drums and a neat little guitar line. This is the greatest lp that I have ever heard. Also, Jana's album, Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom, will rip you a new one. Buy it, too. Everyone buy twelve copies of these works and distribute them to your friends!
