Biography

Blues legend B.B. King has been spending time this year thinking about "The B.B. King That Was." There is his bricks, mortar and memory project down in a Mississippi blues crossroads, his very own B.B. King Museum, which acknowledges his past. And then, his new Geffen Records CD One Kind Favor which puts the blues maestro in competition, not with other players, but. himself. "The B.B. King That… Read more in Amazon's B.B. King Store

Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

This recent adult blues session's shortcoming lies in its pedestrian material (guitarist Arthur Adams, pianist Joe Sample, and Will Jennings shoulder all of the blame), but die-hard King's solo breaks and riffing on the nine tunes fairly well burst with grand rhythmic articulateness. His non-Lucille singing is also augustly steady and resolved, especially when he sheds a proud man's tear for the late Doc Pomus in the songwriter's eight-minutes-plus title track. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

5.0 out of 5 stars Best B.B. King album, November 11, 2003

This CD sparkles from beginning to end. BB gets to show off his incredible voice as well as his tasty upfront guitar picking all the way through. The songs too are memorable. Particularly check out 'Back in L.A.', 'The Blues come over me' and the great Doc Pomus title track that continues to move me after 12 years of owning this album.

This album is excellent!!! It really shows BB's true greatness and versatility. It is a mix of blues and rock with great vocals
and lyrics. These songs move you. Some are footstomping and upbeat and others very poigntant. You can't help but sing along.
The guitar playing of course is great. "The Blues come over me" is awesome. ALL songs are great. A truly fantastic album.
A must but. ENJOY!!!!

Sounding incredibly fresh, the King returned in 1991 with an exceptional album that blended his trademark genre with soul and gospel.Real to life lyrics and great grooves complement this cross-over album proving that sometimes old dogs can learn new tricks and thus expand their audience.Featuring an excellently crisp production, this record is a must for any serious blues aficionado.
