Director Spike Jonze (Adaptation, Where the Wild Things Are) collaborated with the vodka company Absolut in the production of the little short film "I'm Here". It was in Absolut's website where I first saw the 30-minute film, and the first thing I thought after watching it was "Damn, it sucks that amazing little short films like this one never get released on DVD". Fortunately, I was wrong, because not only was it released on DVD, it comes with a beautiful hardcover book, the great soundtrack, and some other cool extras.
The book is not only beautiful, but also very insightful and even funny at times. Composed of gorgeous photography and insight into the filmmaking process by the director and crew who worked in the movie, you can feel this was a work of love.
The quality of the DVD is good (certainly a lot better than watching it online), but the real seller is the movie itself. The little love story between two robots in L.A. is really touching and beautiful. The acting and directing are really good too. Definitely one of the best short films I've seen. The CD with the soundtrack is a really cool addition to the set, since that's one of the points that really stand out when you watch the movie.
"I'm Here" is an amazing short film, and "There Are Many of Us" is exactly what a great companion book should be: Informative, insightful and very honest. Highly recommended.
