In fact, too pretty to use for journal-keeping, unless you buy a spare copy to keep pristine! The book is faux-leather-bound, in red, with an elastic band that wraps around, to give the appearance of keeping it shut. The inner pages are parchment-like, with very faint images of the map of Middle Earth background-printed. It's a lovely gift, for a friend - or for yourself.

Very Nice Journal. It is red leather bound with a little elastic strap on the back that wraps around to keep it closed. When you open it the first page you see has a semi-transparent picture of the map of Middle Earth. The next page has the following written on it: "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" then "there and back again... A Journal" The pages have nice lines and a faint map of Middle earth in the background. It doesn't interfere with the writing at all. This is a MUST own for any Tolkien fan.

... It is a leather-bound journal containing a parchmentesque paper. It's nice for keeping a journal of your life or just for notes for something. If you want a journal to use, I suggest this one for it's antiquated feel. It makes you feel as though you are writing a tome similar to "There and Back Again."

Get this one if you can! Love the elastic closing, you can keep papers, etc. in the book. I carry it in my purse. So pretty with the georgous red color, pages are beautiful. I've gotten other Lord of the Rings journals but this one is my favorite!! I even got a brand new one to keep for who knows?

Currently stationed in Afghanistan with an Infantry unit, I always found from previous deployments that having a journal is a good way to calm the mind and leave a record, perhaps for my children someday. "There and Back Again" is perhaps the most fitting. Also being a big fan of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, having grown on both the books and the animated movies, I felt it was worthy of using as a chronicle for my misadventures.

This journal looks really great on the outside and inside. The star and title on the journal along with the 2 "B"'s looks really cool. As for the inside, theres a small map of Middle Earth and lightly printed on each page is the map too. I really like the journal, haven't really used it just kept it because of the way it looks. Hah.
