Book Description

1555530664 978-1555530662 November 7, 1989
Jessie Redmon Fauset's first novel shows a prescient awareness of the black middle class's quest for social equality in the early twentieth century and of the limited vocational choices confronting both black and white American women in that era. Set in Philadelphia some 60 years ago, There Is Confusion traces the lives of Joanna Mitchell and Peter Bye, whose families must come to terms with an inheritance of prejudice and discrimination as they struggle for legitimacy and respect.

5.0 out of 5 stars The road to success is pavement with hardship, August 14, 2005

This review is from: There Is Confusion (Northeastern Library of Black Literature) (Paperback)
Jessie Redmon Fauset, as well as being the editor of Crisis Magazine and discovering Langston Hughes, was a wonderful author. This particular novel is about an ambitious young lady who would not let anything get in the way of obtaining her dreams including love. Excellent characters, a good plot and an interesting perceptive view on the struggles of young African Americans in the 20's and 30's. This novel is highly recommended for an enlightening heart warming read.
