Meece just possibly might be the best in the CMI to combine good theology with upbeat contemp music. Here after a hiatus of some years, he offers this new CD of eleven cuts, one of them a remake of "We Are the Reason." The others are new creative efforts. The prevailing message is one that needs to be spoken and spiritually digested these days, that sin is powerful and corrupting and the enemy is seductive and creative and powerful. The constant solution Meece offers is in the first cut "No Other Hope." He provides his usual nice balance of rockers with ballads all mixed with his superb keyboard work and vocalization. Especially fond of "Dancing with the Enemy" and "Help Me Stand." Meece has certainly escaped from the Success and Wealth groups and continues to be one of view that understands the profound differences between a theology of the cross and one of glory.

Do it again, David!,

I had waited for this one a long, long time. I became a David Meece fan during the mid-80s when I first heard the song "You Can Go" on the radio, featuring wonderful piece from Bach's 2-part invention as an intro. That song can be found on the CD, 7, but right now it is hopelessly out of print.THERE I GO AGAIN is not much to look at at first glance. The side features a very unattractive rainbow color. The photos show David wearing what appears to be leather shirts and pants (except for the front photo), and surely they must be the goofiest-looking photos ever taken of a musician. One last complaint: Track #2. "Dancing With the Enemy is, without a doubt, the cheesiest song he has recorded in over 20 years. It even makes Carman sound hip! So, why in the world would I still give this CD 5 stars? It is because this CD has music and lyrics that speak more to the Christian in the areas of standing against temptations and habitual sins than any other Christian music I have ever heard. Michael Card, Rich Mullins, Newsboys -- I love these guys to death, but they (and probably no one else) haven't tackled the subject of standing up under temptation like David Meece has in THERE I GO AGAIN. This CD is basically I Corinthians 10:13 put to music. Look at these lyrics for "There I Go Again": There I go again stumbling into the same old sin I keep rejecting the truth - All of the songs on here (with the possible exception of one or two) deal with overcoming sins and temptations and clinging to the Lord. In fact, Track #4, "I'll Be Waiting For You" talks about the Father waiting for His child and longing to be in fellowship with His child (even when His child has other plans). This CD was released in 2002. The last album before that was ODYSSEY in 1995. I hope he doesn't wait another 7 years before his next release. And I hope it's as at least as good as this one.

There He Goes Again,
By Sean King (NORWALK, CT United States) - See all my reviews

The arrival of a long awaited album from David Meece is like a cool rain after a long hot summer. Thats just what Meece's new album: "There I Go Again" delivers. Refreshing and very original, (unlike many of his Christain comtempory singers) David is not afraid to admit his weaknesses and the sins he struggles with.Ever since songs like: "Falling Down" David Meece had shown an attitude of true humility and honesty we Christains must face in dealing with our own sins. "He who confesses his sins, and renounces them finds mercy" (Psalms). Of his new album David lays it all out on the line with songs like track #1: "There Is No Other Hope" (you can accept Jesus Christ or you can reject Him, but there is no ther hope for us if we reject Him!!). Other songs like track #4 are a beautiful expression of the Fathers love towards us. The title track: "There I go Again" is consistant with Meece's confession/struggle with habitual sins that plague him. Track #2 :Dancing With The Enemy" was a good idea for a song, however it seems a little too generalised to pin down those inflitrated with satan's handiwork. My personal favorite on this album is track#6 "Things You Never Gave Me". David realises that there were certin things he desired but that the Lord refused for him to have knowing those things would be harmful to him either spiritually, phyically or both. David voices his own gratitude to the Lord for sparing him of "The Things He Never Gave Him" (Father knows best!) Meece's new album is a shoe in for those of us who have enjoyed his music ministry all along. I encourage younger believers to give it a listen, now that they "have tasted that the Lord is good". Buy this album and you may well yet realise how fragile our walk with The Lord can truly be. By the way, the music is incredibly well done! Superb production!
