Meece Provides Great Message and Music,

Meece just possibly might be the best in the CMI to combine good theology with upbeat contemp music. Here after a hiatus of some years, he offers this new CD of eleven cuts, one of them a remake of "We Are the Reason." The others are new creative efforts. The prevailing message is one that needs to be spoken and spiritually digested these days, that sin is powerful and corrupting and the enemy is seductive and creative and powerful. The constant solution Meece offers is in the first cut "No Other Hope." He provides his usual nice balance of rockers with ballads all mixed with his superb keyboard work and vocalization. Especially fond of "Dancing with the Enemy" and "Help Me Stand." Meece has certainly escaped from the Success and Wealth groups and continues to be one of view that understands the profound differences between a theology of the cross and one of glory.

I had waited for this one a long, long time. I became a David Meece fan during the mid-80s when I first heard the song "You Can Go" on the radio, featuring wonderful piece from Bach's 2-part invention as an intro. That song can be found on the CD, 7, but right now it is hopelessly out of print.THERE I GO AGAIN is not much to look at at first glance. The side features a very unattractive rainbow color. The photos show David wearing what appears to be leather shirts and pants (except for the front photo), and surely they must be the goofiest-looking photos ever taken of a musician. One last complaint: Track #2. "Dancing With the Enemy is, without a doubt, the cheesiest song he has recorded in over 20 years. It even makes Carman sound hip! So, why in the world would I still give this CD 5 stars? It is because this CD has music and lyrics that speak more to the Christian in the areas of standing against temptations and habitual sins than any other Christian music I have ever heard. Michael Card, Rich Mullins, Newsboys -- I love these guys to death, but they (and probably no one else) haven't tackled the subject of standing up under temptation like David Meece has in THERE I GO AGAIN. This CD is basically I Corinthians 10:13 put to music. Look at these lyrics for "There I Go Again": There I go again stumbling into the same old sin I keep rejecting the truth - All of the songs on here (with the possible exception of one or two) deal with overcoming sins and temptations and clinging to the Lord. In fact, Track #4, "I'll Be Waiting For You" talks about the Father waiting for His child and longing to be in fellowship with His child (even when His child has other plans). This CD was released in 2002. The last album before that was ODYSSEY in 1995. I hope he doesn't wait another 7 years before his next release. And I hope it's as at least as good as this one.

There He Goes Again,
By Sean King (NORWALK, CT United States) - See all my reviews

The arrival of a long awaited album from David Meece is like a cool rain after a long hot summer. Thats just what Meece's new album: "There I Go Again" delivers. Refreshing and very original, (unlike many of his Christain comtempory singers) David is not afraid to admit his weaknesses and the sins he struggles with.Ever since songs like: "Falling Down" David Meece had shown an attitude of true humility and honesty we Christains must face in dealing with our own sins. "He who confesses his sins, and renounces them finds mercy" (Psalms). Of his new album David lays it all out on the line with songs like track #1: "There Is No Other Hope" (you can accept Jesus Christ or you can reject Him, but there is no ther hope for us if we reject Him!!). Other songs like track #4 are a beautiful expression of the Fathers love towards us. The title track: "There I go Again" is consistant with Meece's confession/struggle with habitual sins that plague him. Track #2 :Dancing With The Enemy" was a good idea for a song, however it seems a little too generalised to pin down those inflitrated with satan's handiwork. My personal favorite on this album is track#6 "Things You Never Gave Me". David realises that there were certin things he desired but that the Lord refused for him to have knowing those things would be harmful to him either spiritually, phyically or both. David voices his own gratitude to the Lord for sparing him of "The Things He Never Gave Him" (Father knows best!) Meece's new album is a shoe in for those of us who have enjoyed his music ministry all along. I encourage younger believers to give it a listen, now that they "have tasted that the Lord is good". Buy this album and you may well yet realise how fragile our walk with The Lord can truly be. By the way, the music is incredibly well done! Superb production!

David Meece is Fired with the Spirit's Touch!,

All I can say is "Wow"! David's newest recording, "There I Go Again" is charged with a dynamism that's so God! Each song has a story to tell and a message of hope and love! I have been listening to David for about two decades and this CD continues a long standing tradition of excellence in music recording! This CD will musically grab you from beginning to end! David's range is impressive with diverse musical arrangements and lyrical versatility. The first two tracts, "No Other Hope" and "Dancing with the Enemy" establishes from the outset that this CD will comfort and inspire as well as caution and admonish. The riveting and upbeat tract "Run" is lyrically as well as musically powerful with an apocalyptic flavor! The tract, "The Things You Never Gave Me" reminds us to thank God for all those prayers that went unanswered! When I listened to this song for the first time, I began to recall periods in my life that I too am thankful to God for "the things you never gave me!" And "Raise These Arms" is destined to be a classic, challenging the Church in the 21st Century to be "reapers of the harvest"! The most powerful aspect of this recording is David's giftedness in relating and connecting with his listening audience! The music will make your spirit soar! The words will touch your heart! David is truly a lyrical miracle! People of all age groups will love this CD! I just hope David does not wait another 8 years before he records another CD! I liked the CD so much that I booked David Meece for a concert! If you're in the area, come see David in Concert at First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC on July 27, 2003 either at 11:00 AM or at 7:00 PM.

All hail the unchangeable David Meece . . .,

. . . who has not lost "it" in over twenty years of songwriting! Though his signature high notes don't come as often as they used to, when they do, they are still strong. Though his music has evolved a bit with the times, it is still unquestionably the Meece sound that his fans know and love: mature pop, touching ballads, driving keyboard faintly tinged with rock. "No Other Hope" proves the resiliency of Mr. Meece's vocals; "The Things You Never Gave Me" is testament to his creative songwriting; "I'll be Waiting for You" lilts with the pleasant energy that permeates every Meece offering; "Dancing with the Enemy" shouts loud and clear but with humor that he will never water down his message. Perhaps the brightest star of this recording, however, especially for us twenty-year fans, is the bonus track: a live, piano-only version of the classic "We Are the Reason." The musical genius, passion, and uncompromising lyrics are as alive and well here as they were for 1981's _Count the Cost_. I'm so grateful for the return of David Meece!

I've read a gripe that David Meece still sounds the same as always - why should that be bad? It's what we loved about him in the first place! The message, as with all his CD's, is excellent. There's a bit of everything - quiet music, fast-paced, "noisy" tracks - all the stuff he's well-known and well-loved for. Do buy!

Welcome back, David...........,

After a 7 year absence, David Meece returns with this long-awaited release, and it does not disappoint at all. David has had an extensive career that dates back to his debut album in 1976, and now in 2002, his first CD on the new "Aluminum Records" label is here, after numerous hold-ups. For my money, though, anything new by David is worth the wait. As soon as the first track starts, there is almost a time-warp effect that takes place; apparently this man's voice just doesn't age. The high notes are still there, as are his very impressive keyboard skills, and his song-writing is still in top form. Stylistically, this album gives his fans exactly what they expect in a David Meece album; keyboard driven power-pop, one or two songs that border on "arena rock", and of course, some lovely ballads as well, (which are really his strong point, I think.) "No Other Hope", "Dancing With the Enemy", "Run", and "Raise These Arms" are all high energy tunes, while two of the albums highlights can be found in the poignant lyrics of "Things You Never Gave Me", and the emotional "By the Waters". As a bonus track, there is a live "unplugged" version of the classic song, "We are the Reason", performed with voice and piano only in front of a very appreciative audience. Overall, my rating is 4 stars instead of 5 simply because I don't feel this is his best album, a distinction that would have to go to "Once in a Lifetime", his 1993 CD. (I mean, how can you possibly top a song like "My Father's Chair"?) That would be the only reason for docking one star, however. David Meece is finally back, and his fans are in store for another great collection of songs.

A Masterpiece,
By M. Loncar (Harrisburg, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: There I Go Again (Audio CD)
An outstanding CD that should win Meece many new fans and completely thrill his old ones. After many listens, it's hard to find any weaknesses, but to be fair ... "Dancing With the Enemy" is fun and sharp, but slightly dated (note the Oval Office dig). The title song is probably the "weakest" on the CD, in that it majors on falling spiritually instead of recovering. And the first single, "No Other Hope" is a little long. Ok, and Mona Lisa didn't smile enough ... The 5-star rating is not overstated--this is a masterpiece. Most listeners will find every song truly enjoyable. "I Just Want To Be With You" and "I'll Be Waiting For You" are exceptional and should have wide cross-over appeal. Most importantly, Meece's spiritual depth is highlighted in other great songs like "Things You Never Gave Me" and "Help Me Stand." Bottom line--buy this CD--you'll love it and will listen to it over and over again.

Here He Comes Again,

After a much too long absence from the Christian Music scene, David Meece has finally put out a new CD. Fans will be thrilled, and it just might win over a new fan or two.The years have not dulled David's pen in the least. These songs are filled with honest lyrics, just like always. The prevailing theme seems to be the need to depend on God, as expressed in such songs as "No Other Hope," "I Just Want to be with You," "Run," "By the Water," and "Help Me Stand." Yet, he also touches on God's promise to be there for us ("I'll be Waiting for You."), struggles with sin ("There I Go Again"), and being thankful for God's sovereignty ("Things You Never Gave Me"). Musically, the songs range from fun, retro-80's sounding rock to modern Adult contemporary and ballads. The one thing I missed was David's outstanding piano playing. It's there on a few songs, most notable "By the Waters," but it should have been featured more then it was. David Meece has proven he still has something to say. He's as powerful and entertaining as ever. Hopefully, the wait until his next CD won't be nearly this long, even if it was worth it in the end.

After such a long wait for David Meece's new CD I was afraid that it couldn't possibly live up to expectations, but it does all that and so much more. The music is as powerful as it ever was and Meece sounds better than ever. There are very few CD's that I own in which I really like every song, but this is one of them. David Meece's music will inspire and brings a powerful message. The songs are true reflections of Christian life, from "There I Go Again" and "Things You Never Gave Me" the songs are personal and honest. This is CD the I will play over and over again, I will never get tired of listening to it, it is a true joy. Meece once again proves that his music is timeless. This CD is sure to please all David's old fans and introduce this Christan music legend to a new generation.
