1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, awful, awful !!!!
What can I say. Blatant ripoff of AMERICAN GRAFITTI. Last night of cruising & partying before leaving for college. 50's Music was TOTALY ALL WRONG for a 1969 cruising setting....should have been more late 60's, anti war centric....this was my era so I know.

Acting was TERRIBLE!! Must have been Dermot's, Noah's and Kelli's first acting job. Mark Ruffalo...

Most of us think about a time of bubble gum music and a seperate time when there was the Vietnam war. What we forget is that these two things do overlap and we idealize the time of bubblegum music and leave out the part about the war. I believe that this movie gives a good sense of making sure that we know all the bad that came with that "idyllic" time. Watts, Vietnam, and bubblegum music...not even the local burger hang- out was a place to just forget and be free...

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite movie of all time., January 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: There Goes My Baby (DVD)
I first watched this movie a couple of years ago and automatically it became my all-time favorite movie. It made me cry, laugh, everything. I have watched this movie over and over again, and have not become tired of it yet. I know practically every word in it, and the music is awsome aswell. I have nothing negative to say about this movie. Its a good feeling film that helps us understand what it was like in that generation, in our parents generation. I would recommend this movie to anyone. It's quite a chick flick, no lie, but i think everyone could relate to it in some way or another.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this movie, November 9, 2000
By A Customer
This movie is the best. I first discovered it at a movie rental store, which later on closed and I thought I lost this movie forever. Searching endlessly at stores, through cataloges, and every movie site on the internet yielded no results. Finally I was in a chat and the movie was mentioned. I had to trade a movie of mine for There Goes My Baby with a girl that lived in California. I am so excited about being able to have another copy of it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If you're crazy about the sixties, this movie's for you!, February 28, 1999

This review is from: There Goes My Baby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"There Goes My Baby" follows the graduating class of '65 through several trials and demanding issues of the 1960's. It's a serious, yet fun coming-of-age story with plenty of good music and familiar faces including Dermot Mulroney, Rick Schroeder, and Noah Wyle. I really liked this movie's sensitivity to political and social issues such as the Vietnam war and the Watt's riots as viewed through the eyes of California youth.

One of my all time favorites. The characters were the same year in school as I was. The music was great, but could have been more variety. This was a spin off from "American Graffiti" I believe; a lot of similarities. I love them both. I like movies that take me back to my teen years.

This is worth watching. I gave it 4 stars, but wasn't sure if 3 would have been better. But there are good contrasts between affluent and non, white and black, "conservative" and "liberal" views, plus a little gratuitous bare chests from several of these well-known male actors. It reminds me of American Graffiti also, go figure.

What a GREAT movie! I was taken back to an earlier time when we were the future of America. Acting is OK, music is even better. Worth the purchase for the wonderful music alone! A 5 star adventure in my book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, April 28, 2010

Fantastic movie. Shared it with my kids. Teaches a little 1960's history, tons of great 1930-1950 old cars, tons of great 50s and 60s music, brings backs lots of memories of old style hamburger joints, cruising, what it was like to be a kid in the 60s and 70s! Last days of High school, and so on. A true story to boot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, September 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: There Goes My Baby (DVD)
I love this movie so much! I first saw it on Showtime on TV and I fell in love with it. I would look every single day to see if it was on, and ofcourse, they only put it on once every month! This is an amazing movie that really captures what it's like to graduate from high school and not know what to do. It really shows the power that teenagers can have in this world. It's an incradible movie and everyone should watch it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Heartwarming and Fun!, April 1, 2002
By
"gooniegirl" (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews
I saw There Goes My Baby when it was in the theatres, and while I saw that there were some similarities between it and "Hollywood Knights" I don't think it was a blatant rip off... Floyd Mutrux wrote and directed both movies so there are bound to be some similar aspects. That's like hating Pulp Fiction because it had a similar feel to Reservoir Dogs.

I may be a bit biased because I love the "one day in the life" type of movies (ie Dazed and Confused) I thought it was a heartwarming and fun movie and it has a permanent place on my shelf next to the VCR.
