The Master of Smoothness,
By Michael Rodden (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From There to Here: 1989-2002 (Audio CD)
Brian McKnight has had an extraordinary career and will continue to gater steam as he goes along. His albums seem to get better and better as he releases them. This CD, his greatest hits highlights the top songs of his career, but in no way does justice to all of his songs that should be labeled as his greatest hits. I own all of the Brian McKnight CD's and I can put all of them in the CD player and listen to them all the way through, he is just that good. But some of my personal favorites are some of the songs that are not more known and are not included on this CD. However, these are special songs and do deserve to be credited as his greatest hits. "One Last Cry" is a song that can bring tears to any one with a broken heart and "Love of My Life" is one of the sweetest love songs Brian offers. Take my advice and buy this CD. You will be mesmerized by his wonderful vocals. Brian McKnight cannot dissapoint!!

I picked up this CD recently and WOW. He is definitely one of the best R&B singers I have ever heard. He truly has an amazing voice. There's no doubt about it. I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to relax and listen to a soothing voice.

I absolutely love Brian McKnight's voice and was really happy that he released a Greatest Hits CD. I was a fan from the first time I heard "One Last Cry" and I have only grown to appreciate his music more. This CD is great and won't disappoint anyone who is a fan or even a casual listener of Brian McKnight. Some standouts are "Love Is", the goregous duet with Vanessa Williams; "Anytime", a sentimental look at a relationship gone wrong; and "Back at One", one of my personal favorites. Give the samples a listen and see for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

From There To Here: The Best of Brian McKnight,
By
This review is from: From There to Here: 1989-2002 (Audio CD)
I have always been a fan of Brian McKnight's since his first hit on the Pop charts "Anytime." When I saw that he had a greatest hits collection out I decided to buy it, and i was certainly NOT dissapointed. Little did I know Mr McKnight has been around since 1989. Since then he has been the only black male R&B singer to have a spot on the Hip Hop, Pop, Country and R&B charts at the same time. Like the description on the CD says he is virtually a "one man band", wrriting, producing and singing his own material. He has a sense of smoothness and character that put mediocore newcomers like Mario to shame. My favorite songs are "Love Is" featuring female R&B singer/former Miss USA Vanessa Williams, "6,8,12" (love those opening and closing vocals!!), "Home", "You Should Be Mine" featuring rapper-turned-preacher Ma$e and "Anytime." If you're a TRUE R&B fan then your collection is not complete without this collection of hits from Brian McKnight. I cannot wait for his upcoming album this spring. A+

Solid Effort,

As with any greatest hits compilation, you generally know what you're getting before even purchasing the product. Most of the songs are already familiar on this album, but what I hadn't anticipated was the initial enjoyment in listening the first time through and appreciating how timeless the McKnight sound really is.There are 2 new songs on the CD, and the one that leads off the album is another smooth jam that fits seamlessly with the rest of the music. The other new song wraps everything up, and sounds mildly out of place, considering it has a Mr. Cheeks guest appearance (along with someone named "Baby") - I feel it detracts from what makes Brian McKnight so unique and consistent. Regardless, the real meat on this disc are the previously released tracks. McKnight's cover of Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" is a fabulous tune, and along with 1997's "Anytime" and "The Only One For Me", represent the best of Brian McKnight. However, the real litmus test lies in the listenability (is that a word?) of the entire album - Brian McKnight simply produces outstanding songs, and this CD has a song (or two) for every conceivable mood: love, grief, happiness, energy, etc. I saw this artist in concert about a year ago in Kansas City, and he puts on an outstanding show, as most veteran performers do. The man is wildly talented, and I recommend this compilation wholeheartedly. There are a couple of songs missing from the latest album ("Still", "Biggest Part Of Me") that I would have preferred the inclusion of, but overall, no major quarrels with the track list. Brian McKnight stands out along with only a few others in the world of R&B... go get this album for a wonderful representation of what he is all about!

When it has come to style of traditional Soul music on the radio these past few years, it has been highly overlooked in the music industry. 2002 proved to be an example of overlooked Soul by a whole field of artists. There were just so many artists that released records that were overlooked in place of Rap music: Toni Braxton, TLC, even Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston were overlooked because of the Rap game. One other artist that also got overlooked within the game is Brian McKnight. That feeling of ignoring, was exactly what the music industry kind of made him feel like in the early 90's. Still, he came out swinging with a returning style, that still remains overlooked in an industry that is geared towards youth.Brian McKnight's 2002 Greatest Hits album, From Here To There, is a constant reflecting this gifted singer/songwriter's career. The record is mostly all ballads, but there are some areas of Hip Hop in the mix. The music on the record is pure and very exciting, especially when it comes to how people love those beautiful ballads. So many songs like Back At One, Anytime, and Home, are just unfortunately overlooked but beautifully crafted melodies that can often cause a motion of love. There are also other songs that are in the bill from the film and television side, his duet with Vanessa Williams on Love Is (unfortunately remixed and not the original version that appears on Vanessa Williams Greatest Hits: The First Ten Years), and Crazy Love, from the Afiracn-American film Jason's Lyric. Still, I was surprised that a few of his ballads were overlooked like Whenever You Call, his duet with Mariah Carey, and W-I-N, from the Cuba Gooding Jr. film, Men Of Honor. There is no doubt in my mind that Brian McKnight is the Lionel Richie of the 21st Century. His music is just pure and unique and elegant. I think he'll go down in history the same way Ray Charles, Steveie Wonder, and Lionel Richie have been placed already. I just hope that people give Brian a second listen at him, and enjoy his vibe Anytime.

I will cut straight to the point and just say that you couldnt ask for a better greatest hits cd than this. This really has some of the greatest hits that he has made. Listening to the cd made me realize how long it has been since I listened to any of his cds and how good his songs are. This is perfect for anyone who likes his music but not enough to buy all his cd's seperate.....it puts it all in one for you.....from past to present. It even comes with 2 new tracks: Let me love you(Flows like water with the rest of the tracks) and Love of my life. Both tracks are tight and give the cd that much extra appeal....even though none is needed. I wont go through what songs is good here becasue simply put...... everything is good. If you like R+B and good singing ..then this is one you dont want to miss out on. Fans and Non-fans....get this!

Essential!,

This is an essential album for Brian McKnight fans! Most of his popular tracks are on this album, including "6, 8 , 12", "Back At One", "One Last Cry", and "Anytime". If you're a fan of smooth ballads and relaxing slow jams, this is a must-have for your collection. I know downloading songs on to computers is a hip thing these days, but if you're still old school, and enjoy collecting CD's, this isn't a bad one to have. This has to rank as one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time!

I just want to say that this cd just blew me away! It's like everytime he comes out with a new cd it just get's better and better. I think that all of his cd's are just wonderful. I love the way that he put some of his old songs from his prior cd's in this one. His work is fabulous in every aspect. I am just waiting for the one for March 25, 2003 to come out so that I can add that one to the collection as well. I would like to take this opportunity to compliment Mr. Mcknight on all of his music. Thank you for giving me something nice and smooth to listen to.
