Editorial Reviews

An expert blend of electronic rock production & pure pop-songcraft built on a bed of pillaged found-sound from cities the band visited on their 2006 US Tour. Ringmaster Dave Einmo assembled some of Seattle's finest for the album including members of Long Winters, Smoosh, Radio 4, Crooked Fingers & Preston School Of Industry.

This CD has really grown on me. It's got a lot more energy than HLAK's first CD, to the point where a few songs (Big FM Radio Hit, Daydream Vacation, Six Bags of Confetti) almost skirt the pop genre. Not that that's a bad thing, I happen to like music that makes me want to get up and dance.

But this music has too much of a dark edge to ever be confused with pop music. At the same time there's a lot of humor in it too, in a dark sort of way (a robotic voice delivering "Someone saw a mouse in Keano's couch..." - I have a feeling that song was inspired by real events). There are a lot of interesting sound effects and samples used throughout, if you're paying attention. 'Everyday Should Be a Costume Party' even employs some 70s disco/soul riffs, which I found amusing and effective.

There's really not a bad song on this CD, and overall it's high energy music that makes you at least want to bob your head, if not all out dance. There are a few slower songs, but someone did a good job when they arranged the songs so that it flows really well and there are no jarring tempo changes (a pet peeve of mine).

I liked this CD from the beginning, although I wouldn't say I was absolutely crazy about it at first. But the more I listen to it the more I like it. It's a lot more than just music with a good beat. There's a lot of variety here, and it's almost like a cross between electronica and indie rock. But somehow it all fits together really well, and it's just plain fun to listen to. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars ecletic mix of electronica and alternative, August 31, 2008
This review is from: There Is Loud Laughter Everywhere (Audio CD)
The second album by head like a kite is even better than the first. An eclectic mix of electronic and alternative is has beautiful melodies and striking arrangements. This deserves much more radio play than it has received so far.
