First of all, this is a tad expensive for a 10-track CD amounting to 25 minutes playing time, and with absolutely nothing in the way of substantive liner notes. I mean, Jimmy Roselli - born Michael John Roselli in Hoboken, N.J. on December 26, 1925 - had a beautiful voice and a way of delivering a song that compared favourably with fellow Italian-Americans like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Vic Damone, Dean Martin and Jerry Vale. But expecting that kind of money for a CD version of one of his 1960s vinyl albums (United Artists 6611) is a bit over the top.

And, unlike those contemporaries, he never came close to matching their commercial success with the hit single, despite having the resources of a large label (United Artists) promoting his material - some 17 singles released from 1965 to 1970. Indeed, he only ever had one make the lucrative Billboard Pop Hot 100, while adding that same charter with five others to the Adult Contemporary (AC) charts, introduced in 1961 to reflect the success of "easy listening" music.

His albums did, however, always sell well, especially within the Italian-American community when he recorded in his fluent Neapolitan dialect (e.g., the LP "Mala Femmina" - the title tune can also be heard twice in the 1973 Martin Scorsese film Mean Streets), and in 1966 he had even been selected to sing the title song, Who Can Say?, for the Italian documentary Africa Addio (it was also released as a UA single that year).

As for his singles, many of which showed a predilection for Country tunes, he had three released before experiencing his first charted effort, starting with Laugh It Off/Why Don't We Do This More Often? on UA 866 in 1965. That same year he also came out with Have You Ever Been Lonely (Have You Ever Been Blue?

One of,if not the best, of the best. Ilike him better than Sinatra. Even the background music comes on strong with artists who bring out Jimmy at his best. The songs take me back to better days of life. For me, nostalgia. A bit of fresh air,a vocalist who projects sound from where it is supposed to come from, unlike many of today's singers(?) who seem to sing through their noses.I find it easy listening, these songs tell stories and are clearly understood. Sing forever Jimmy.
