"There is a Season" is a re-release of Pastor Chuck's 1999 book "The End of the World as we Know it." But if you haven't read the 1999 version, you need to get the new release.

This is one of my most underlined and highlighted books, very insightful, well-written, very reader-friendly, from the son of Chuck Smith Sr, of the original Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa.

It discusses the roots of Postmodernism, the current scene, and what the church can do to blunt the negative aspects, and to foster the positive effects. The book instructs, encourages, illustrates, analyzes, and urges the church (that is, the people of God) to be aware of and involved in the coming trends that postmodernity is bringing our way.

As John Fischer's review says, This is "a must-read for people who want to communicate to their generation or simply understand their own kids (or their parents, for that matter)"

It succeeds admirably!

... If you have read Chuck Smith's book "The End of the World as We Know It" you know this book as well.

To begin with, this book is beyond "emerging church" becoming a buzzword for a more or less trendy retro spiritualism, and it doesn't appeal to readers looking for the latest trends in Christian lifestyle.

Chuck reveals the processes and the roots of the revolutionary changes in the western culture as the tides of modernism go out to give way for ... what comes after modernism.

Chuck Smith jr., the son of a Christian pastor who in the sixties and seventies helped the "Jesus People" out of their being socially segregated and partly rejected by the Christian establishment, is one of the most unpretentious and most honest writers I ever read, thus combining a very personal and down-to-earth sense of reality with the results of a diligent and thorough research he has done throughout the world of "Generation X" and the kind.

He shows the very sublime character of this revolution and how a completely new thinking could grow within especially those who are around 30 or younger, a thinking that doesn't even conciously ignore but just hasn't ever considered, values and rules of the game the older generation had grown up with.

And he leads especially Christian believers into a depth of insight that enables to understand what has been irritating or even shocking whenever we noticed it, and to find a grip on how to communicate and interact with and - after all - love people who have become like aliens to a modern-thinking world, not to mention the modern-thinking christianity.

Even if it may not appear on best selling lists of the "emerging church" literature I would strongly recommend to read it.
