5.0 out of 5 stars Sweeden Rocks?, June 7, 2000
By
Kyle (Charlotte) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
Sweeden used to be home only to sickeningly sweet slick pop bands like ABBA. Lately there has been some great music coming out of Viking territory. First the Merrymakers put out a great Power Pop record, and now the Drowners have released a great guitar rock CD.

The Drowners sound like what would happen if you put the Foo Fighters, old Joe Jackson and Weezer music in a blender. It has great melodic guitar rock songs and strong playing. Every song on the CD is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best power pop, March 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
It's one of my favourite CDs in my collection.
Great tunes, very catchy, with good arrangements and voices.
Most song are lightly upbeat, but has some gorgeous slower songs too ("Postello", "Death Has Never Been a Friend of Mine", "Winter Left You Alone"). Drowners (from cold Sweden) never hat got to repeat this high quality level in other releases. "Is There Something on your Mind" is a perfect great top 5 hit that never happened. "Think of Me" is a very pleasant song from the USA's movie "Boys and Girls" (2000). Who likes
bands like Fountains of Wayne, Sloan, Semisonic, Jet or Tories cannot miss this one. No filler here, just gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Drowners are on MY mind, June 17, 2003
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
When I heard The Drowners' title track online, I knew I had to have their CD. I figured if the other songs were half as good as ". . .Something on Your Mind", I'd have no regrets.
I was wrong.
All of their songs are as good-if not BETTER- than the title track. The Drowners "Is There Something on Your Mind" is the best impulsive purchase I have ever made! Their music is the perfect blend of rock guitars, good harmonies, and catchy lyrics. Between upbeat pop tunes (Bittersweet, One Star), fast rock songs (Bellingham), and beautifully haunting ballads (Postello), The Drowners grab your attention and keep it-- this coming from someone with ADD. I bought this CD four years ago and I'm still in love with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something Fresh, June 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
Music is my life. I listen to music almost 24/7 and I buy new music almost twice a week. When I saw this CD, I almost bought it without even a preview listen, but I played it safe and found "Is There Something on Your Mind" in MP3 format on their home page. My first listen, I knew I liked it. It had a certain sound to it as if I had heard it before, but it was fresh enough to send me to the store right then to buy it. If you like power pop with a dark side, buy this CD. It's great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, February 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
Got this CD from my sister and was impressed right from the beginning. Suprisingly good. Doesn't come across as a freshman album at all. A few of the songs have lyrics that aren't going to win any prizes, but overall the songs are catchy with good harmonies and pop bridges. I good album overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it really that hard for you to think of me?, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
I was wandering around a record store recently when I saw the attractive cartoon cover of the Drowners. I put on the headphones and heard something I don't hear very often.. Music that was instantly likable! I took the CD home and it's permanately stuck in my stereo. The album opens with a love questioning, "Think of Me." And it continues on to their ballad style, highly addictive title track. The rest of the album continues to stay uptempo with a beautiful piece thrown in here in there such as in the song, "Postello" in which Magnus Vikstrom soothingly tells us, "..every little school girl will fall in love with you." The album ends with a gorgeously depressing song entitled, "Death has Never Been a Friend of Mine" to finish a wonderfully addictive set of music. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just give it a shot, July 15, 2006
This review is from: Is There Something on Your Mind (Audio CD)
It's awesome hook-filled power pop. 'Nuff said. This album showed up on lists that also included stuff I like such as Merrymakers, Jellyfish, Jason Falkner, Brendan Benson and Matthew Sweet so I gave it a shot and have never regretted it. For crying out loud you can get it for a nickel + shipping.
