About the Author

After a series of misguided choices, missteps and false starts, Greg Love moved to Tennessee in 1995 to attend college and earn a degree in Art Education. Before attending his first class he had gotten a job as an assisted-living caregiver at a local non-profit. Mr. Love worked as a live-in caregiver, providing daily training in adaptive living skills and community involvement for a series of men diagnosed with a variety of disabilities while earning his undergraduate degree.
Working with the men on such an intimate basis required him to dig deep within himself to discover the depths of his abilities and when he did he found that he possessed patience and a tenderness he did not know existed. He duly changed his major from art education to special education and discovered a new purpose in life. When time came to do his student teaching he felt as if it were his reward for all of the hard work he had done in college. While student teaching Mr. Love had the privilege to work in a school with a behavior intervention program, where he spent a lot of time. Mr. Love knew then that his life experiences, behavioral intervention experiences working for the non-profit, and university training would culminate helping underserved children in an alternative behavior setting.
After earning his Bachelor's degree in Special Education in 1999, he stayed on as a caregiver until he went to work as a teacher in the fall of 2000. He has been teaching at-risk and hard-to-reach students ever since and becomes more passionate about it every day. He has since earned a Master's degree in education. Mr. Love is currently living the quiet, normal life he has always wanted in Tennessee.

More About the Author

Tenacity, integrity, and resilience have gotten me this far, not to mention the love and support of my family and family of friends. I have been writing since I entered foster care in 1980 and have not stopped since. I have written a variety of stories in several genres, but to date There Is An Urgency is my only published work. The publication of There Is An Urgency is a story unto itself, but to make a long story boring: When I finished the manuscript I emailed it to nearly everyone on my contact list. Many of those friends, colleagues, and acquaintances read it and then forwarded it on to their own contacts. Before long I started getting inundated with very positive feedback about the importance of the story. I shopped the book to many agents and got rejection after rejection. Undaunted and being a true believer in the punk rock DIY ethos I looked into starting a publishing company of my own. I put a call out to my family of friends and they quickly donated enough money to start Cwn Annwn Publishing and put out There Is An Urgency and any other books I write. I write for several hours each day and I look forward to a long life of teaching, writing, and professional speaking on foster care, child abuse and educational resilience!

Having known the author for a short time in high school, I was absolutely stunned at the horrendous level of abuse he suffered. This compelling work has made me re-evaluate my interactions with everyone I encounter in my life, especially my wife and children. Thank you Greg!

There Is An Urgency is the most inspiring true story I have ever read! I could not stop reading until I reached the end. Gregrhi Love constructs his life story masterfully with words that are lucid, but dark. Emotionally, I was on a roller coaster through-out the book with mostly heartfelt tears dripping on my pages. In some areas of the book, you literally have to stop and collect your thoughts because the text is so raw. Gregrhi Love's blunt honesty will melt your heart with the turn of every page. Reading this book will change your thoughts on life, love, mercy, and family norms. I know for me, my awareness from a teaching stand point has been changed forever because I will never look at a case of abuse the same again. Without hesitation, I recommend this book as a must read for anyone seeking literature that is worth reading.

I am astounded by this book and Greg's story. Even though we know that so many children are growing up in terrible, abusive situations, Greg's experiences are beyond anything I have ever imagined. The amazing part is that he survived and uses his experiences daily to have such a positive impact on those around him. This is a story of awareness and of hope. I have such respect for Gregri Love and his accomplishments, including sharing the story of his heart-wrenching childhood. I hope everyone who works with children will read this book!

I have been working with children for almost 20 years. The pain and abuse brought out in this book is unimaginable, but I would suspect more common than we think. Hard to believe a human being could survive such abuse, let alone become such an amazing role model. I have read the book 3 times now, and it is just as raw and gripping as it was the first time

This heart-wrenching narrative, as incredible as it seems, is utterly believable. The various incidents described keep coming back to mind weeks after reading them. This is a book full of pain and hope that will stay with you forever. Every adult should read it -- it opens a door to a world most of us will never know and enhances our awareness of our own life and those lives around us. A MUST-READ!

Greghi Love's heart wrenching memoir "There is an Urgency" is a forthright, honest, deeply felt and extraordinarily well written story of love, betrayal, guilt, loss and finally a sort of redemption. Born to a 23 year old prostitute and drug addict and raised by her pimp and a father who was in and out of prison Love managed to get himself a degree,a vocation and a successful life. Recalling his childhood and recounting his experiences with the troubled youth that he works with today Love gives us a moving tale that is dark and harrowing but ultimately filled with hope.

This book is a must read for teachers and parents. The subject matter can be haunting and hard to stomach , but the message and motive for telling the story is real and genuine. The author puts his personal experience and pain out there for the world to read, an uncomfortable and difficult thing to do, in order to reach those who really need to hear the message in this book. The result is a fast-moving powerful narrative. This is a book that you will not want to put down until you know the whole story...

Being an avid reader, I truly appreciated the Author's blunt detailing of the events that transpired during his formative years...while reading it, you actually feel that you are witnessing the events as they happened - a very unnerving feeling. His on-the-mark descriptive style puts the reader in that little apartment in Bridgeport, Connecticut...the sounds, the smells, the visions assault the senses and leave you unable to put the book down. I myself read it in one night.
I also enjoyed his layout of the book, allowing the reader not only a "breather" from the sad, pitiless abuse he suffered, but letting us see how these terrible events went on to shape him as a man, and the positive influence he has had on the young people in his care now.
I enjoyed reading this book, and would highly recommend it to anyone - not just those who have suffered abuse. I feel that if this book does not save a life (enlightening people to the real chance that they most likely know someone who is or has been physically or sexually abused) it will most assuredly save someone's soul.
