5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, November 7, 2003
This review is from: There's a Dog in the Heavens! (Paperback)
The relationship between dogs and people is a difficult one to put into words, but Martin Elster has managed to it with poetry. His poems range from funny to sad, but throughout they convey not only the special way dogs think. They also describe our best friends in a way that goes beyond the limitations of language. Any dog lover will enjoy this book, and all will find their own dog somewhere in its pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A joyful collection of engaging short poems, April 11, 2003
This review is from: There's a Dog in the Heavens! (Paperback)
There's A Dog In The Heavens! A Universe of Canine Verse is a joyful collection of engaging short poems by Martin Elster celebrating canine companions everywhere, from mutts to purebreds to foxes and wolves. A round of lyrical fun especially recommended for dog lovers everywhere. Use Your Head: Your puppy's like a two-year-old:/An explorer, inquisitive, bold./If she chews up your stuff/Try not to be rough/And don't punish her, hit her, or scold.//Just buy her some dog toys instead/So she won't go and chew your bedspread./If she does, don't yell "No!"/Say "Off!" and then show/Her a brand new stuffed toy -- use your head!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's a Dog in the Heavens! by Martin Elster, March 16, 2003

This review is from: There's a Dog in the Heavens! (Paperback)
The poems in this book range from whimsical, even silly to thought-provoking and philosophical, encompassing almost every aspect of dogdom. There are fantastic story-poems about flying dogs, Yorkies so small they are smaller than a mole, a mystery/horror story about a mongrel at the vet's (which turns out to be the owner's nightmare ... or does it?) There are educational poems about training, dog body language, and canine health matters (with natural remedies); poems about famous dogs and heroic dogs from history. In fact, there are poems in here about almost any dog related theme, from the Dog Star to Laika, the first creature in space. Besides pet dogs, there are numerous poems about wild canids such as wolves, dingos, African Cape hunting dogs, coyotes and others. I found the book highly entertaining and informative. I recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs.
