4.0 out of 5 stars There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, January 4, 2002

This review is from: There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom (Hardcover)
After reading "Holes" and thoroughly enjoying it, I bought this book with high expectations, and they were certainly met ! Sachar seems to come up with an origional storyline with each new book. The story revolves around 5th grader Bradley Chalker, he is considered at school to be an "outcast" and that veiw is also shared by his teachers who, as well as the students badmouth him openly to his face. This is why out of concern of his "behavior problems" his mother is forced to sign him up to the new school concellor, "Miss Davies" or as she prefered to be called "Carla". This changes Bradleys life as he discovers that Carla shares the same interests as him and that only she can see his feelings and his "good side". This is a heartfelt book that I read in one reading. It approaches the situatiion both carefully and comically. An exellent book that I would recomend to anyone. It has inspired me to continue reading books by Louis Sachar in the future ! Please, please go and buy this book because you really will be missing something if you dont !!!!

After reading the bestseller "Holes" and thoroughly enjoying it, I was filled with expectations when I bought this book an they were certainly met ! Louis Sachar seems to come up with an origional storyline with every new book. The story revolved around a fifth grader - Bradley. He is considered an outcast by the school including the teachers. Everyone expresses their veiws about him openly within earshot and he is considered " A troublemaker." Things change however when "Jeff" a new boy from Washington joins the class and an unstable relationship develops from there. Bradley has a friend. This still didnt change Bradleys behaviour problems as his mother had been informed, so with hope for improvement, she signs him over to the new counsellor, " Miss Davies" or "Carla" as she prefers to be called. As school life gives over to home, we see Bradleys true feelings and his "good side" and the only other person willing to see this is Carla. A heartfelt story that was written both comically and respectfully. An excellent book that I read in one reading. It has certainly encouraged me to continue reading Sachars' books in the future!
