Editorial Reviews

Marco Sfogli is arguably the world's hottest guitarist of the next generation. With a style equally at home in almost every genre, from full on shred to straight pop tunes to mind blowing fusion songs, it's little wonder that Marco was the guitarist of choice when Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie went looking for a guitarist to perform and then tour for his "Elements Of Persuasion" album. His debut "There's Hope" is 11 tracks with a mix of influences Marco has absorbed since he took up the guitar at age 9. On the album Marco comments, "There are plenty of shred records out there and sounds like many guitarists are losing the melodic component. My goal was to make it very melodic with the right amount of fire!". 'There's Hope' delivers Marco's aims with stunning precision, detail and emotional content sure to make it a "must own" release for fans of quality music and virtuoso guitar work.

This guy is insane! I first heard of Marco Sfogli when James Labrie had him play guitar on his solo album "Elements of Persuasion" a few years ago. That was a great album and absolutely shocked me with how good the guitar playing was. When I heard that he was going to release his own solo album I had to get it and I am not disapointed. This is a great album full of heavy guitar instrumentals supported by great musicians instead of programmed backing tracks which is too common in this genre. Sfogli has an awesome guitar tone and can shred as good as anyone. His songwriting is interesting too combining elements of Petrucci, Satriani and Vai but creating his own dynamic style. Highly recommended to fans of instrumental guitar albums.

If it weren't for James Labrie (of Dream Theater fame) I wouldn't have this killer guitar album. Marco was the guitarist on James Labrie's "Static Impulse" solo album. I hadn't heard of Marco until then. If you're into instrumental guitar albums along the Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, etc. route, then this is a "must" album. In fact, if you appreciate rock guitar at ALL, this is something worth getting. This isn't just "shred", there's some actual "songwriting" here. Great tone, great melodies, great fun. Marco's got some serious talent, no doubt. Will Marco put out another solo album like this soon? All one can say is "There's Hope". :)

Definitely recommended.

there's hope deserves a spot among the top rock fusion records of the past decade. marco's phrasing is bar none and has a great knack for melody and song structure. like most shredders marco can play with the rest of em, but unlike the majority he is not just a speed demon, his shred/prog/fusion phrasing is some of the best ive heard and deserves to be mentioned with his peers like petrucci satch and vai.

Completely agree with Michael's review here! I too first learned of Marco from James LaBrie's solo release "Elements of Persuasion". As a [hack!] guitar player, I was simply amazed at Marco's work on that album. His speed and precision are amazing but what really sets Marco apart are his guitar tones, terrific melodic sense and unique phrasing - he is without doubt what I call a "tasty" guitarist. If you are a fan of great guitar work, you will surely enjoy Marco Sfogli!

Like Joe Satriani, John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Andy Timmons, Greg Howe, Vinnie Moore (UFO), or any other amazingly talented guitarist? Then you will love this album. This guy is seriously talented and I can't wait for him to release another album. Every single track is good too, not just a few here and there. I recommend this to any lover of great guitarists and/or instrumental masterpieces. This guy kind of came out of nowhere to me, and I am very glad I found him.
